When was the last time
You felt you heart expand.
Expand, contract, expand, contract.
At the sight of another human being?
Not even the sight...just the sound.
Hearing her voice, so sweet and soft,
The words she says - forever music.
The last time I felt that,
I should have known better.
The time before that,
I learnt my lesson.
The inevitable return of the
Strongest feeling man knows,
Always follows the feeling of love.
But the emotion I feel in my heart,
What is it really?
The red cloud of anger? No, but sort of.
The white flash of pain? Yes, but not really.
For one cannot name the emotions that love brings,
Or the feelings when it leaves.
Hurt is the closest we have come,
In all the years we've known it.
But hurt - that does not apply to me.
After what I've seen, what I've been,
I cannot be hurt. Or am I wrong?
Has the place in my heart
So many people know,
Finally been touched by the love
Of nothing more than a young girl?
A young girl she is not, but she is.
So mature, so bold.
But in want of a protector,
Someone who can keep her heart
Safe from the world.
I was once that person.
But no longer hold the box.
I still hold the key, but the lock has changed.
The simple twist - no longer so simple.
But I am not allowed to have the new key.
Not by her, but by her protectors.
Her protectors? I - ME - I am her protector.
So who holds the power to deny me a key?
The answer is simple. But I refuse to believe it.
I had the power - why no longer?
What has changed? Again, a simple response.
But too simple. And too down to earth.
Too inevitable. Too likely.
The cable was cut.
I've not lost my mind it's inserted elsewhere - hence the limp.
