So what do you lot think of High Society Folk?

I spent yesterday at the Guard Polo Match helpin a rfiend who was taking about 60 women there for the day.

Seemed like a good day out and all the posh people were pretty polite.

I spend all my working day serving posh people - some are nice, a lot are arrogant most are plain rude.

Then again I suspect if I were to work in a similar place with ordinary people I'd come to much the same conclusion about them

Would you define a posh person as someone with money? Personally I've found a lot of rich people to be stuck up their own backsides!

It's like it's always said...it's not money that's the root of all evil, it's love of money.

I know some rich people who are lovely, who don't let on that they're wadded and are no different from anyone else. I know (of) some who are total snobs, with their nose stuck right up in the air and their stiff upper lip fully intact. It's bloody sad.

Anyway, I agree that it takes all sorts to make up "High Society" as you put it...just the same as with all social groups, you can't make a sweeping statement about any of them.

    IMO, anyway :)

Ditto. Theres a few richy people that stay in the hotel often. Some are pretty nice but most are very rude, stuck up and complete assholes. But I'm sure theres an equal number that are nice and all that, I just havn't met them.

You're up a bit late old timer :p

I hate high society, generally the people are snobs, and look down their nose at you.

Not all of them. Most of them but not ALL. After 9-11, my dad had to start all over because the stock market crashed, so that humbled my family alot by not having much money. We don't have to worry about money much now but we still go to charity events every month to help raise money as well as donating(just came back from one tonight).

Alot of wealthy people that I know donate quite a bit of money to good causes. So not ALL rich people are evil :p

My aunt married in to money and now she thinks she's posh when she's as comman as muck. She turned into a real snob. Lost her womanly independace and now thinks that being an old lady nail painter is a taxing job.....

I think being 'posh' is about attitude AND wealth. I have no major problem with class, as long as the difference between the classes isn't too great and people have a chance to move 'up and down' classes.

Yep  there's that slightly weird saying about the Queen going to the loo just like everybody else... I guess that fits here! :eek2:

Donating money to charity does not a good person make. I donate regularly and I earn in a year what some people earn in a week, nay a day!

Yeah but lack of money is only evil because they want more, they love for more... that what makes them evil

Well if one comes from a proud family, such as I do, one learns to deal with the staff effectively and that means not being too rude.

As for the difference between High Society and rich people, well I think it is plainly obvious that you can never buy class.

I have two kidney's, like most people, though given your probable level of education I wouldnt think you would know that.

True - being the meagre peasant I am I also don't know where they're located so I'll just have a general dig around your torso area with a blunt knife and see how I go

If you would like such a contest then I am willing to duel you. However I doubt it would be much of a contest, I was dueling champion of my house at Eton.

A duel??? Don't be ridiculous I'm a good half foot shorter than you and malnourished to boot! I'll just jump you with some of my fellow serfs as your leaving a tavern slightly tipsy after a night of carousing and tie you up in the chicken shed until I've forcibly removed your insides.

Where we go from there depends on what my limited imagination (due to my frightening lack of education and the constant mind numbing poverty inflicted upon me by the likes of you) can concuct.

You are a Cad and a Bounder and I will not be spoken to by your sort in such a rude and brisk manor.

Its a shame that servitude was outlawed by this pathetic 'liberal' government. Now we have to pay you scum and not deal with you properly.

I serve some right posh sorts, and like with any 'type' of people, you get some nice ones and some not so nice ones.

They seem to go from one extreme to another - either very nice or very arrogant.

Yes we give thanks daily to the new 'liberal' government, they have made us rich beyond our wildest dreams.

Now rather than being forced to work we are paid a whole shiny shilling for it which is nearly enough to pay the rent - now all we have to worry about is food and clothing . . . oh how the tables have turned muwhahaha

Indeed, thats why most of the staff we have on the estate are immigrant ones, we steal their passports and force them to work for food. The arrangement seems to be working well.

And of course there is the 'Encouragement Stick' for those slackers.

Curse those foreign types, it is they who have turned me to a life of banditry and footpadding and keeping an ever ready eye for the gleam of white earphones . . . 'stand and deliver your iPod or your life'
