You know, that Chris Waddle thing is a take off from On The Hour, a Radio Four comedy which is even older.

    I didn't know that.

And gosh I do feel old for remembering The Fast Show.

Remembering Drop The Dead Donkey (and still getting the jokes now) makes me feel even older though.

Does she have the look of a frightened deer when she looks back at you?

    Ah! Ah! Ah!

If you havent heard On The Hour before then I highly suggest you go out and buy it. Its THE best radio comedy ever.

It started Alan Partridge, The Day Today and Brass Eye.

    Sound brilliant.

Was it the radio version of The Day Today (which was flippin' hilarious)?

Sort of, its a little quicker and obviously doesnt rely on visual gags (they dont work on the radio for some reason).

Amando Innionuci was involved in the writing of it, and him and Christopher Morris wrote the other things. They both also (interestingly) went on the BBC's internal news journalist training.

They use this training to excellent effect for the comedy, its in places so like BBC news, yet not quite.

    Truely fantastic.

Ahh, thats how to spell it.

I saw him only recently as it happens, not socially, at a pilot for a Radio Four comedy show. It was excellent, I nearly wet me'self.

Unfortunately it doesnt appear to have gone down very well with the controllers because I havent heard it on yet.

But, the content was pretty dodgy, there was jokes about "wapping" something into a girls face, and quite a bit about velodromes.

I'd have thought that's the sort of thing Radio Four would love :yeees:

    Velodromes?

Velodromes, you know, the big oval things cyclists go round really fast.

I guess the gags dont really work taken out of context.

Anyway, Amando is alive, around and still VERY funny.

    Though he is very short.

I know what a velodrome is, I just don't see a comedic connotation. I'm obviously naive.

    He is rather, isn't he?

I wouldnt have thought it funny either, but it most certainly was.

Yes, he is very short, I'd say maybe 5' 4'' something like that.

Given the BBC at the minute funny things won't get made. Look at how badly MOnkey Dust is treated.

    *sigh*

Good point, I love that show, so dark and nasty, yet funny at the same time.

And what about The Smoking Room, I quite like that, but they have repeated the same show 3 times this week, plus the first showing.

Well the two episodes I've seen havent been really funny, but certainly worth a watch. But they keep bloody showing the same one again and again.

Did you ever catch Peep Show on Channel Four, now that was a comedy gem.

Sounds a lot like Little Britain then- funny, but over-hyped.

Now thats another one worth hunting down, I thought it was one of the best comedy sit-coms EVER.

It involved Mitchel and Webb, the latter is involved in The Smoking Room and both of them as a pair did a classic radio Four show too.

Do you ever remember a Channel Four sit-com called the NIghtingales? Was about some night watchmen.

    That was hilarious.
