It's an inflammation of the bladder. A kidney infection I think. Better get yourself checked by a doc anyway chriss. God. I never thought you'd do something stupid like this!

    Cystitis is horrid.

Get yourself to a GUM clinic STAT! Meantime, pop to your local 24 hour garage and get some Cranberry juice and drink a glass of that, and a glass of water, every hour.

Also, taking an anti-inflammotoray[sp?] tablet such as Ibrupofen helps.

Some do. With the right treatments. They never really totally go away I don't think.

With treatment, they can be. Not all of them go away without treatment. Dependent whether you lead a careful, healthy sex life, you shouldn't really be receieving any.

However, I am unlucky and a little headstrong with sex and have had the odd cystitis/thrush bout.

I'd strongly recommend the water/cranberry juice thing until you get to the Doc's. You'll see SUCH a difference in half an hour at least. :)

    No point in going?!

There's every reason of this going.

You have cystitis - a urinary tract infection - which causes you to urinate in pain, with some blood passing with a constant need to urinate, even if it's the tiniest of amounts.

If left, it might spread - the infection - to your kidney which will just be most unpleasant.

I'd go to your local GUM clinic ASAP. It's only common sense.

ETA - you're in Glasgow. Go to Sandyford clinic from 9AM - 11AM, they give you a number and you go in - no names asked, etc. They don't judge, only give good advice, treatment and it's free.

I'd recommend emptying your bladder before and after sex to get rid of any bacteria that's went up your urethra in future.

It's alright, everyone learns by their mistake. I only get ratty at younger people because I wish I knew earlier. :(

    Good luck, petal.

    You're male yes?

If it burns when you pee then it is far more dangerous than when it burns when a woman pees! Women are susceptible to infection quite easily but men aren't, so you really need to get to your GP now!

It does sound that you need to take a trip to the doctors fairly sharpish, if you do have an infection or STD they need to be seen to fairly rapidly.

It's only an infection, two weeks isn't that much of a long time to deal with it. But you were sensible enough to take the initiative to ask, so don't beat yourself up. :(

Calm down ok? You aren't going to die of whatever it is you've got, people are just concerned by your seeming lack of urgency in contacting the doctor!

You need to stop panicking, relax and get it looked at.

    Panicking won't help the situation.

Don't :) Everyone learns from their mistakes; people will only think you are dumb if you don't get it seen to so just pop down to the place 1983 suggested and have it checked out :)

didnt know it was worse for blokes when they got it...

anyway, i had a urinary tract infection awhile back.. just phoned the doctors up and said i was passing blood with my water and they booked me in within a few hours, got there gave the doc a sample and he gave me some meds for a urinary tract infection and it sorted it, helped alot! made it feel so much better too..

definatly go with beckys advice about drinking alot, i drank loads and loads of water. about 2.5 ltrs every 12 hours and i went to the toilet alot but there was no blood and it hurt ALOT less! i didnt notice any difference with cranberry juice myself though which i though was strange considering the ammout of people that suggest it.

anyway, get yourself sorted with the doctors, drink lots of fluids!

i didnt know cystitis/urinary tract infection where STD's... i dont think i was sleeping with anyone before i got it either. could someone clarify that for me? i know its been treated now but i know i slept with my ex alot with no condom etc and was wondering if there is a chance i could have passed it on at the time?

Cystitis isn't technically an STI, it comes when bacteria during sex become introuduced to teh urinary tract. It's common in women. It's also known as the "honeymoon disease" for a reason.

The best thing is to go to the toilet after having sex.

    Hi there

As others have said you should go to your GP or nearest sexual health clinic to get yourself checked out ASAP. It could be anything from Cystitis to an STI such as Chlamydia

The fpa website allows you to search for your nearest sexual health clinic.

    FAQ: visiting a GUM clinic

Factsheet: Have I got an STI?

While at the clinic you can also find out more about good contraceptive methods too, and TheSite also has factsheets on contraception

    Take care,

    Susie
