quick question on condoms!

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Hey, I've looked quickly in the search forum on condoms but there were so many posts, just thought I'd ask!

How long does a condom last for unused? i.e after you buy one what's the maximum time you can keep it (so it can be used safely)?

As already stated, they have expiry dates on them which should be adhered to!

Stick them in the freezer and you can defrost them in the microwave as you need them. They'll keep longer that way.

This just seems like such a bad plan to me for some reason.

The normal expiry date should be long enough surely.

She's right... please ignore the freezing/defrosting advice and stick with the expiry date. Also, whenever you're buying make sure there is a BSI kitemark or a CE mark on the packaging - this means they have been tested to a high safety standard.

bear in mind that thw dates are for if you keep them safely. Should you keep them in a warm place where they experience varying pressure - say a wallet - you may find the rubber perishes somewhat quicker. In bowls on windowledges isn't too good either

    Well that much is obvious.

latex doesn't biodegrade, but it does degrade. It becomes brittle. And if a condom is brittle it is useless, as it cannot expand when the semen fills the end.

That's how come condoms always need to have the end pinched when being rolled on- otherwise they split when semen fills them.
