joint problems

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
i have quite bad joint pain, mainly elbows, sholders, fingers, knees and ankels- are there many more to choice from?

and it's annoying me, it's stopped me from doing so much i.e. carrying lots, going for runs-i used to do this every morning now i can't cos it hurts too much. i find that swimming helps as do other things:rolleyes: but i've stopped taking painkillers for it as with my depression-which is getting much much better now, even though i did have a few set backs, because i would be taking 2 paracetemol every day, and i mean each and every day....which i know is bad....

i know i have problems with my ankels i have 24 scars on the because of various accendents....but they really do hurt lots....

any ideas as to what might help?

i have been to my oestopath, and he said that it's only because my joints i.e. the bone is growing at a different rate to my muscles and skin- thus it hirting lots....but how can i get it to stop??

thanks

I have the same problem, and i have to wear support bandages, lol virtually everywhere!

One on my right knee, on both ankles, on both elbows, and on my right wrist.

I look like an egyptian mummy!

My friend is in the National Youth Guitar Ensemble and she damaged her wrist quite badly playing with them over Easter, so I wouldn't rule it out.

Listen to the specialist! If he isn't worried then you shouldn't be either, but I know that isn't going to make the pain go away. Have you had some blood tests? These can confirm if you have imflammation etc.

Paracetamol is rubbish for joint pain anyway, its highly unlikely to do anything.

You want a NSAI or non-steroidal-anti-inflamatory, such as asprin or ibruprofen.

But taking too many of those is very bad for you.

Actually an extract of cannabis is being used as a spray very effectively in trials for joint pain.

I'm not sure when it might be moving out of trials though.

Exactly, its a much more effective pain killer for that type of pain.

Paracetamol should be used for headaches/fever type pain and asprin/ibruprofen should be used for aches/pressure headache pain.

And then obviously you can move into codine as well, but really the amounts they have in the OTC med's dont do much.

If you've already seen a specialist then listen to what they have said. Apart from their advice you could try supplements - cod liver oil is especially good for joints.

Yes, but then it gave me terrible gas, I kept burping up nasty tasting smells.

 at the cod liver oil, the doc reccomended it to me, my mum bought me a big thing of tablet things. Dont pop them though :yuck: I popped one by mistake cuz i was messin with it, it stunk and went all up the wall, which now has orange stains on, oops.

Cod Liver Oil, everyday. Ibroprufen, when you need it or how oftne you get told to take it. I find co-codamol is also good to help ease the pain slightly. :)

Yeah maybe, but be careful, if you over do it, you could permanantly damage your joints.

Have you seen your g.p about the pain? Do you have any swelling as well as the pain, or general feelings of unwellness (not sure that's a word!). If so, it's worth checking out. Joint pain is important to check out quickly to minimise damage. Tates x
