electric toothbrushes and electric flossers is what my sister used when she had braces and they seemed to work well.

when i had a brace, i had a special toothbrush for braces....its like a normal one, but has an indentation down the middle the accommodate the brace, allowing the rest of the brush to get at the teeth, not just the metal :)

    ask your orthodontist

I had a toothbrush with a tiny circle of bristles and used that after i had brushed with a normal brush, just to get into the parts when the normal one couldn't reach. I can't remember where i got it from but if you ask your orthodonist or look in Boots, i'm sure you will find something that will help.

You need to brush them more often than you ever have before. One of my friends was told not to use floss when she had hers, so I don't use that. I use an electric toothbrush, and things called 'denti-sticks'. I got them from boots. They're wee white stick things that come in a small plastic tub with a red lid. They're not bad for picking stuff out.

Boots also sell wee brushes for doing the finishing touches after regular cleaning. They look pretty good, I just couldn't afford one at the time.

I ment that one. Do you just ask your orthodontist and do they give you one for free?

Wilkinsons have a couple of inexpensive electric toothbrushes at the moment. I just picked up a Colgate electric toothbrush they have on offer for under £4 (including batteries).
As for flossing, it's something I've never quite got the knack of, so I use some flossers and combined toothpick things from Tesco's that look a bit like mini hacksaws (though a lot of placed do similar things nowadays).

The problem with electric toothbrushes is that when you've had your brace tightened your teeth are extremely tender and using an electric toothbrush hurts like a b*tch. I have an electric toothbrush for when my brace hasn't been tightened recently, and although it does work pretty well, there's still those wee awkward bits between your teeth and under the wire that are difficult to reach with the electric toothbrush and a whole lot easier with a 'toothpick' style thing, or with a very tiny 'specialised' brush.

Not that it's not a good idea - Sorry if i caused any offence.

I have two toothbrushes, my normal one and a slightly smaller one to get into harder places.
