Yeah you come up with some really useful insights and points into the argument and you really do engage with the issues instead of just insulting or shouting people down, dont you?
Oh and you never distort the facts and misrepresent things to suit your own agenda, do you?
EC law does legislate on the curvature of bananas, seeing as you cant seem to read for yourself I’ll copy and paste it again, ok? Child?
“The law lords rejected the argument, put forward by the supermarket Asda, that a legal blunder in 1973 had made the EU laws unenforceable. Now greengrocers will have to ensure that under EU regulation 2257/94 their bananas are at least 13.97cm (5.5in) long and 2.69cm (1.06in) round and do not have “abnormal curvature”, as set out in an eight-page directive drawn up in 1994.”
That’s from this website that I already posted.

If you want the whole EC directive then its on this site that I posted before.

You are a moron.
And I'll repeat what I wrote on another thread
quote:
Bananas from Cyprus are small and tightly curved. Costa Rican bananas are large and straight. If you work for a supermarket chain, and have the job of buying 10,000 boxes of bananas, isn't it likely that you might want to know just what's inside them? EU regulations are nothing more than supermarket buying rules standardised for the huge European market. They are of interest only to banana growers, supermarket buyers, and lazy journalists wanting to poke fun.

quote:
Curved bananas to be banned. This is untrue. Bananas are classified according to quality and size for international trade; under EU agreements rationalising past standards by individual governments and the industry. They are not banned.

quote:
Many of the negative stories in the media about European laws have nothing to do with the European Union, are half-truths or, in some cases, complete lies. For example, there were never any laws to ban the sale in the Britain of curved bananas, cucumbers and rhubarb, to ban mushy peas or to introduce legislation on the diameter and depth of pizzas. And the European Commission never recommended calling British milk chocolate 'vegelate'!

Who's the moron?
You are!!!!
I just fucking posted the directive and copy and pasted the relevant exerpt!
You dont even need to quickly "skim read" the link, its right there!!
THE EC DOES LEGISLATE ON THE CURVATURE OF BANANAS, I SHOULD KNOW - I WORKED THERE!
Go look up EU regulation 2257/94 you idiot
Do you ever read the links you post?
This link
http://europa.eu.int/smartapi/cgi/sga_doc?smartapi!celexapi!prod!CELEXnumdoc&lg=en&numdoc=31994R2257&model=guichett
Which is COMMISSION REGULATION (EC) No 2257/94 of 16 September 1994 laying down quality standards for bananas (Text with EEA relevance), does not mention what curvature bananas should have. Unless I'm blind of course.
Ok you must be blind, that link I posted was the Amendment to the original directive. Copied and pasted from that site:
"- free from malformation or abnormal curvature of the fingers, "
And the other Times article I posted has the original directive (from 1992 I think?).
Can you read that?
You were wrong and stupid for being so vitriolic before. Hypoctical for calling me childish and accusing me of not engaging with the issues while making 3 word posts and insulting people.
(b) not sure if I'd believe The Times on this issue, they have an anti-Europe agenda.
If you can post a link to the EU directive that explicitly states that retailers in the UK cannot sell bananas of specific curvatures, then I'll admit I was wrong.
Until then, I'll continue to think that its a myth.
How's that for a compromise?
