Ih-rate or Eye-rate

Whats the correct way to say irate? My Dad says I say it like an American as I say Eye-rate. Bear in mind I have a very broad wolverhampton accent though so does my Dad who says "ih-rate"

I know dumb thread but its gonna settle an argument (though I won't tell my Dad if he's right!) He is basing it on how we say Iraq and how America does.

    Don't think there is any one way to say it tbh. Liek the difference between pronunciations of economical, or Gaelic, or advertisement and stuff. Just different stress patterns innit?
