What prisons are for?

Prisons are shame, ugliness and crap!
But they exist so please answer a simple question- what is prisons’ function?
I know there are three widespread views: 1) to isolate criminals from society… or maybe society from criminals 2) to discipline them 3) just of revenge. Your opinion?
PS for me all three reasons are wrong any of them doesn’t work

If someone has a crime comitted against them they want to know the person found guilty is punished for their crime.
It's a system that is in place in every populated country on Earth, and has been for hundreds of years.
If people want to lower crime rates, wouldn't it be a start for a level of trust to be built between the police and communities? Then at least people may feel a sense of responsiblity... maybe if the poverty gap was made smaller too there'd be less relative deprivation.

For victims, research suggests that at least 75% of those who take part are glad they did so. The process allows victims to impress upon the offender the real impact of their actions and receive an explanation.

So do you have a credible source to back up yours.
Yeah, 'cause The Sun tells the absolute, untainted truth.
Are you for real?
I think all those Page 3 girls must be having an adverse affect on your brain.
It would be a start.
I'd believe a drunk, retarded homeless person before i'd believe the sun.
"lmaoooooooooooooo"
Examples?
Funny how you can never ever answer a direct question.
I always thought it was to do with relative deprivation, poor parenting, lack of a sense of community and boredom...
and again, maybe a rapport needs to be built between communities and the police.
Can we take that as a "no" then?
If the only evidence provided backs up what someone else is saying, why should we believe your "99%" claim?
And it's a very well dismissing someone else's sources but you should do so one the basis that they are "anti-english" unless you can back that claim up too. I would seriously love to see anything which supports that claim...
This guy is really funny!
