Does anyone know of any form of contraception that is safer than the pill? My gf is on the pill but we decided to use condoms just to be safe, they r ok if u are alone for a few hours and have time to faff around puttin em on, but what if we decide on the spur of the moment??? My friend told me about an injection u can have that lasts 4-5 years, is this true or a load of crap?
Beep boop. I'm a bot.

Sadly a lot of young women who get pregnant are on the pill - its only 98% effective if taken in accordance with the instuctions. The implants are much easier to get right, but it isn't always obvious when they are going to wear out. I don't know about IUDs
generally it is a good ideal to use a condom - or femidom if you're loaded.
Durex do a condom called <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/confused.gif"> Avanti, which comes in a little plastic pot and has a plastic ring. Its much easier to get one on with one of these (and you can reuse the ring) it's also fairly discrete to carry around and not as easily damaged as the foil wrapped ones
It reduces PMT and blood flow too!!!
It is a little uncomfortable having it fitted & it needs changing every five years, and checking once a year.
Unfortunately it costs about £100 so some doctor's practices don't supply them.

Some of you seem a bit confused about different kinds of contraception. Please read some of these articles from our Sex section on TheSite, and it might answer some of your questions.

PS The condoms that have a ring and are in a pot are called Topaz, and are not the same as Avanti.
