do not get with him while he's on a rebound- no matter how perfect it may seem, no matter how much you may like each other, just don't.
If it looks like stuff's gonna go places but you know he's still thinking about her even just a little bit, tell him straight- you think he's great, and really like him, and that's the reason you can't do anything, not now, not until he's over her.
I know you and every other person in the world knows this rule, its just I know that when emotions get hyped, we all tend to forget the rules!
Anyway, be his friend, but don't push him until he's ready to be pushed, you'll get far more out of it than if you try to forget him- you'll at least get a friend out of it!

trust me, i KNOW how you feel so much. and in that situation you have to options.
forget and move on: painful but not forever
or hang on until you can have him: a amazingly bumpy ride and amazingly painful, but you could reap the rewards at the end.
i chose the second one, and it's painful, really painful, watching him kiss another girl, but i know that it will be me the he comes to when it's all over. or at least i hope.
