Problem

Im not really sure where this is meant to go so im putting it here, mod feel free to move it.
This is really hard for me to write and actaully tell someone.
I have dislexia and its getting worse and worse by the day.
Im having huge problems reading, being here alot helps a bit cos im having to read all the reaplys.
But say i want to read the paper...the words are so small and they all seem to blend together...i mean i can see the words and i know what they say but when i try and read them it takes so long to understand them.
I cant read out load cos it just dnt make sence and i get stuck...its really embarassing for me. I feel useless and stupid.
I want to learn lots of things, but its so hard for me. my spelling is getting so bad its disgusting. it'll take me about 5 mins to spell a simple word that i used to know just cos it seems like its been erased from my mind.
Im a fast thinker as well which makes things worse, i want to write and i want to read but its turning into an up hill stuggle.
Im scared that im gonna end up illiterate and that will affect me working.
there are so many things that are scareing me atm, my reading and my knees. they are bent inwards you see and getting worse, i have to wear knee supports all the time cos other wise they will give way. and if i walk to much in one day i wont be able to walk the next.
Im so scared im going to end up and iliierate cripple.

Ive been to the docs about my knees and am on an10 month waiting list for a mri scan.

I really dnt know what to do with myself.
Beep boop. I'm a bot.

I hope this helps just got it off google. Would have looked for more but on the verge of sleep-deprived collapse.

Sorry but I don't know much about either complaint but if you go to your doctor and say how much a condition is effecting you psychologically they can sometimes arrange quicker appointments for specialists.

    Good luck

I don't really know what to say.

The knees thing, at least you are getting them looked at eventually. Is there a good chance they can be corrected? What have you been told so far?

As for the dyslexia. I don't know enough about it. But as you say, coming here, reading and writing posts/threads, is going to help. What's better still is that by coming here you are able to convey your thoughts, feelings, and emotions, in writing. Some people aren't even capable of that - whether they're dyslexic or not.
At least I now understand why your spelling is so.... confused. :)

Perhaps it's different in the UK but if i were you i'd be speaking to different doctors / specialists...... cos waiting 10months for an mri is utter shite.

I had to have an arthroscopy and lateral release on my left knee 18months ago...... and before they found the problem i had to have an mri..... my problem was nowhere near serious, just annoying and mildly painful...... but from the time i saw a knee specialist to the day i had my mri there was no longer than 4 weeks. Im unsure of the exact time but it was pretty much straight away.

Sorry to be so negative.... but if i were u i'd be asking questions

As far as the reading goes it almost sounds like you're trying too hard, try and take a break.

It's like my typing gets worse and worse these days.

But when I go on holiday and come back it's always much better.

Maybe you need to give yourself some time off.

    Hey Zella
Have you officially been told by a specialist that you're dyslexic? If so, there should be some help and support available to you. If not, the first thing you should do is make an appointmant. It's obviously something you find difficult to talk about but there really isn't anything to be ashamed of - dyslexia affects more people than you think and there are ways to make life easier.
Are you at college or uni? If so, you may be elegible for extra funding or you could make arrangements with lecturers and fellow students to help you with note taking and essaywriting etc. If you have a student counsellor or a teacher you get on with, set a time to talk to them about this one-to-one.

I'm not sure how old you are but if you are 19 or under you could get in touch with Connexeions, and organisation who could offer some good advice on the options available to you.

    Hope this helps
    :)

There was a girl at my school who was dyslexic (I remember reading the story because my bro is too) and she got these pink tinted glasses and they helped her reading loads. I can't remember the details or anything though because it was a few years ago; they were just special glasses that helped in some way. Maybe you could ask your doctor about them or something?

Edited to add something I found on Yahoo:

It is suggested that dyslexic children and adults try coloured plastic sheets as overlays for reading. If they make any difference, it would be worth investigating further to find the best colour for each individual. The preferred colour for tinted strips or overlays may be different from that for glasses as the latter affect everything one sees, not just reading material. If corrective glasses are not needed, plain glass lenses can be tinted.

    Poor Baby !!

Try some coloured plastic, maybe some sweet wrappers.

    See what works....

Maybe some coloured sun glasses may help??

Ah, hmm... well it's possible that maybe they're cheaper now, like ten years later or whatever :) Or if not, I think you have a job unless I've imagined that  maybe you could have a look and see if they work, and maybe save up for them? Unless they're like reeeally stupidly expensive like. Or yeah, you could try coloured sunglasses.

sadly, in the UK, that's quite normal.

you have to remember that a waiting list is full of people who need the scan just as much as zella, and while it's horrible for her to have to wait, everyone else on the list has to wait just as long.

MRIs are expensive tests, and hospitals don't like to give them willy nilly. my aunt was in hospital with a suspected brain tumour, and they didn't give her one for about 6 weeks.
