okay, i know this has been done before, but i want some up to date recent info............i am going to 'dam in 4 days, just wanted some general advice, like which cafes to go i.e. which are the cheapest (student here) etc, and whether there's anything over there worth seeing, i've heard theres a good hash museum......also there are 15 of us going, how big are the cafes?! basically a general invitation to chat shit, cheers folks...............

As a rule of thumb, when it comes to cafes, the smaller the better.

Avoid Grasshoppers.

I've heard good things about a cafe called the Kashmire Lounge, its quite far out of the centre but its supposed to be good. I went to the Bushdoctor and it was fairly crappy, good selection though.

Make sure not to just get stonned all the time, the Van Gough museum is amazing.

Hmm, I can recomend the globe sports bar (believe it or not). Dorms are cheap and claen, with good facilities, rooms are large enough to gather people and (again) clean and not unreasonably priced. My only gripe was the food (not included) was expensive(well, comparitivly), but you can always eat someplace else. The big bonus is that it right in the town centre, so you get an entertaining view AND sound effects.

If you want some-where magical to smoke try Global Chillage. The owners have done a lot to make it a pleasent place to sit.
Definitly make use of the easy access to mushies if you haven't before, and as a final challenge there are some llama's in Voondle Park (sp?) that I've NEVER managed to find.

I would stay out the bulldog pubs, they are a bit lairy!! The Rokkerys cafes are nice, but a bit of a stoners wetherspoons. Make sure you go to the pancake bakery too! Have fun, I'm going again in June!

oh boy

well im back, and i have to say, as an amsterdam virgin, it was all that and more......:).....tx for advice, in the end i was too stoned to find dolphins, although some of my mates tell me it was good......and no mr roll no dead bodies floating in the canals, maybe my luck....i got soooo lost everyday, everywhere looks the same especially on the bridges......

i quite liked the bulldog cafe tho, nice view upstairs (straight across from r.l.d.), and dingy downstairs, stairs down there are suicide tho.......and grasshoppers is ridiculously expensive, so i didnt give it a second look, we were in the hotel damrak right across from it.......

and err, couldnt help but get stoned, 15 of us in the same hotel, there were joints being shoved in my mouth before i could open my eyes, lol.....

only downside were the bums, from the minute i stepped off the train i had some geezer pressing the buttons at the ticket machine for me, trying to squeeze some euros.........its fairly safe in the day, but all the weirdos come out at night, theres a permanent background chit-chat, bums muttering "cocaine, ecstasy, viagra"

long story short, good fun recommend to anyone, although i am now immune to the weed over here its nuts
