*prays*
i was wandering around H&M today, and it was full of this fantastic 50s american hillbilly/grease style stuff.
all 3/4 length sleeves, off the shoulder tops, waitress dresses, circle skirts...
please tell me that this is the end of the awful 80s stuff, and that the 50s is coming in. that would make me very happy.

Bad luck kaff. ;-)
i have been starved of clothes recently cause of the whole 80s thing.
if the shops start stocking 50s stuff, or even 70s, that's good too, then i will be a happy lady.
Yeah 50s stuff is back in
Sorry, stuck-record syndrome...
Tis funky
I love the style-tho it doesn't suit me but I love the clothes! Tho the 50s stylee skirts have been haunting topshop for months now.
I shall be donning a wee Audrey Hepburn look.
Cashmere cardis with pedal pushers and ballet pumps. Ahh, if only we had ze weather ;(
*realises she sounds very londoncentric*
global hypercolour t-shirts only went out last week.
at least when I was a teenager I had the sense to appreciate Bob Dylan, the Doors and hendrix instead of The Archies!!
When I was a teenager I appreciated decent music like yourself, only i preferred Donny Osmond and The Bay City rollers
Remind me were those the ones that changed colour and announced to the world you were sweating?
Didn't realise there had been an 80s revival, wondered about the legwarmers thing but where was the VW badges a la Beastie Boys? or the Miami Vice rolled up sleeves jackets?
oooh would look so nice
that's all very well, but you can only wear what you can buy. unless of course you make it yourself.
the reason i'm happy that the 50s are coming in is because i have been trying to buy 50s stuff for ages, but you just couldn't get it anywhere short of specialist shops, and i just can't afford that. and then the other option was buying vintage 50s stuff from ebay, but that's like 50 years old, so not in the greatest shape.
last week i bought a waitress dress from h&m for £15. THAT's what makes me happy.
It was all fucking rank.
Actually, I didn't wear any of that the first time around, and wouldn't wear it this time around either.
To answer your original question kaffrin - nope, the 50's thing is going to be a mini fad, but the fashion industry has been pushing the 80's revival thing for the past couple of years, has a lot invested in it, and is going to contiue pushing it. As long as some clothing, such as leg warmers, padded shoulders, big hair, and way too much make up such as blusher, stay in the 80's and never resurface, then I'll be happy.
The 70's revival thing was a slow burner, and took a few years to become the norm, and it will be the same with the 80's style - it will blend with current, and past, fashions, until it mutates into its own 80's based style.
