I have been reading 'Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail' by Hunter S Thompson and I thought this qoute was interesting.
"There may not be much difference between the Democrats and the Republicans; I have made that arguement myself - with considerable venom, as I recall - over the last ten months....But only a blind geek or a waterhead could miss the difference between McGovern and Richard Nixon. Granted, they are both white men; and both politicians - but the similarity ends right there, and from that point on the difference is so varst that anybody who cant see it deserves whatever happens to them if Nixon gets re-elected due to apathy, stupidity, and laziness on the past of potenical McGovern voters."
Change the names and could this be now? I would think so.

Only the packaging changes, not the content.
"Hear me, people: We have now to deal with another race - small and feable when our fathers first met them, but now great and overbearing. Strangely enough they have a mind to till the soil and the love of possession is a disease with them. These people have made many rules that the rich may break but the poor may not. They take their tithes from the poor and weak to support the rich and those who rule."
Chief Sitting Bull, speaking at the Powder River Conference in 1877.
the whole business of democracy has become a fucking farce ...and they wonder why fewer and fewer people can be arsed to get out and vote ...i won't be voting for the forseable future unless someone can convince me otherwise.
It is precisely because people dont vote that we can get arses like Tony Blair and Michael Howard as leaders of the two big parties.
The trouble is that Labour lurched off to the right under Bliar- it's comical that the Liberals are the most left-wing party.
Bongbudda- don't vote, it only encourages them.
i'm old labour at heart and it seemed refreshing when tony bliar turned up to drag the party out of the steel and cotton mill mentality of the workers should own the machines etc etc. but talk about disillusioned! i don't see a single soul out there worthy of my vote. tell me who's going to change things then?
please don't ask me to vote for the liberals though left they may be ...charles kennedy is a fucking joke ...and the party always comes across as the please all of the people all of the time party. they are weak ...they are more like a pressure group than a serious political entity.
The voting turn out is a JOKE! If people actually went out and voted rather than just bitching about things we'd be a lot better off!
to me it seems that there are no politics any longer ...theres economics/finances.
we need brave comitted visionaries to build our future. not a bunch of fucking lawyers and estate agents working the free market economy view.
when the NHS was proposed it was sklated as too expensive and totaly unworkable ...yet most people couldn't imagine life over the last fifty years without it.
transport and environment are now two of the most serious issuses facing us ...is anybody doing anything about them on a grand scale? the torys have promised to cut funding on transport!
manchester and sheffield want to expand the very clean and commercialy sucsessfull tram systems they have built ...the torys are going to stop that ...why?
we should be putting and extra 5p on taxable income so we can build a 21st century transport system ...where are the men who can see high speed monorails or such like flying alongside outr motorways ...where are the great movers who should be pushing for hydrogen powered cars ...it's all so weak and watered down these days cos politics has become money. no one has the bottle to stand up to big money and big money no longer seems capable of investing long term.
we have become comfortable and weak and everything is collapsing around us ...give me some political heros and i'll give them my vote.
Its called the Social Market Conesnsus.
And its here to stay.
I doubt it. Free market capitalism will inevitably collapse if there aren't serious efforts to curb environmental damage, exploitation of resources and redress the imbalance between the rich and the poor.
profit at the expense of life and environment ...proffit before people ...proffit at any cost ...will all hopefully seem realy silly in the not too distant future.
Of course it wont be around forever, nothing is. But itll last for another couple of hundred years at least.
Who really consumes you is State. It doesn’t depend on you, it don’t ask for your penny but just takes it away.

especially:
"Election Overview
On 21st April 2002 France held a presidential election. Nearly 35% of the electorate didn't vote, and of those who did vote, the majority voted for minor candidates, like Noel Mamere (Green) or Jean-Marie Le Pen (The National Front). "
Not just in France, the BNP have thrived on low turnouts and are making a big push for the European elections.
Recent post on a football website:
"as regards the political situation make your own minds up but once you experience the problem you,ll be able to understand why more n more brits are turning to the BNP, just wait till this june there is one major shock coming around our part of the wood with a euro mep expected to get voted in and dozens of new councillors also in blackburn, hyndburn, burnley and oldham."
Apologies for not providing a link but due to the nature of the website, I think I'll be breaking thesite rules. Sceptics can pm me their email addresses for proof.
democracy and vision are in a very sad state ...
We can all look in the mirror and find the answer. We are all guilty of complaining more than we do. I personally would vote for you and quite a lot of people I know, the trouble is we are not standing or being active.
Do you remember me posting about the Bristol local elections last year, thanks to a small group of people, no more than 20, in a city of 500,000 the standing Labour party who had controlled things for years and got complacent were booted out, causing the biggest local political shock in years.
I was talking to a local journalist I used to work with who said that people don't realize that in local elections a couple of hundred people can swing a seat due to low turnouts.
People are giving up to easy, last year made me wake up from my own complacency when i saw school children bring Bristol City Centre to a standstill over the war in Iraq. These kids made me feel ashamed, they had never voted but were too young to be cynical like us, they saw something that was wrong and did something about it.
They did not have sophisticated ideas or any sort of leadership, they watched the news and realized kids like them in a country 1000s of miles away were going to get hurt or killed and they got angry and active.
Out of the mouths of babes eh.
