Hi I'm....???

Following on from Shellfish's post, I've been thinking...

I seem to be one of the few people who just can't start or hold a conversation with someone of the opposite sex if I don't know them (probably because I go to a boys school and I'm more used to talking with them). Normally I can be funny if I know the person because I've got things to talk about but its so different with someone I don't know.
So I'll set a scene and ask for some tips.
Lets say your in a pub with your friend and you have met his girlfriend's friends for the first time and you like one of them. You get drunk enough to find the courage to talk to her and then what???
"Hi I'm ...."
With me it would tail off after that. Probably my fault for being quiet but as we have told shellfish we have to get out there.
Any help would be appreciated

Thanks,

Mr. Happy

introduce yourself, give your name.... hopefully she'll give you hers, and then start asking questions, not in a confrontational manner but more conversational! if she says something that you find interesting or that you have something to say about, then say "you like x? wow, i like x too, i do such and such about x..." hopefully she'll ask questions about you, what you do, things you like, favourite bands, tv progs, whatever... and with any luck it'll progress nicely and you'll get on well if not, then just be polite and if you find you're not interested in her then say that it was nice talking to her or something like that, and mean it, and move on to find someone else (if you're looking.)

hope ive been of some help!

Out of my mind. Back in five minutes.

I have the same problem as I was very shy at school (it was mixed, but that didn`t really help) but I`ve found an interesting way of getting past it.
This only works for me with women I don`t fancy but just don`t think of them as women. Just think of them as people.
It sounds weird and deceptively simple but it does work most of the time.
Plus, I`ve been told I`m a pretty funny guy so that helps to break the proverbial ice.

Dont look on each girl you meet as a potential date, cos that way you will only look desperate. Trya nd talk to them, find out about them- everyone likes talkin about themselves and for ppl to show an interest in em! Look on em as mates not dates, and maybe love will blossom

It matters not who won or lost, but how you place the blame.

Dear me. You guys certainly do need help.

The best way is to be yourself whoever's there. Whether your mate turns up with his bird and her mates, just act like you've known them for ages.

If you go out wanting to pull someone it ain't gonna happen. Go out to have a laugh and possibly get drunk and if you meet someone then so be it.

Going back to "the scene in the pub" by the time you have drunk enough to get the courage to speak to them you should know enough about them to have a chat.

    JUST BE YOURSELF

    Thanks to all who replied,

I think its really just getting used to such situations and relaxing. Things should follow from there.

    Thanks again,
