the in depth ones, not just the stand-on-one-leg, can-you-hear-the-beep GP ones. anyone ever had them?

i've googled them, and found a lot of info, but nothing about the patient's experience.

anyone share their experiences?

Because I'm a bit of a deaf git, I have the tests at my local hospital. It was difficult back in Shropshire, being so remote. I had to travel to the nearest major town (Telford) to get tested. Now, I live in Stafford and the hospital there has its own audiology unit.

Local hospital (if you're in a major town) is the best bet.

Ok, i went today, and the ones i had were fine. the specialist took my history, chatted a bit, and then said he was pretty sure my problem (dizziness and fainting) wasn't caused by my inner ear, but he would run some of the tests just to check. i didn't have any of the scary ones.

there was lots of standing with my eyes closed, marching on the spot with my eyes closed, and standing on a foam block with my eyes closed (which is surprisingly hard). then i had a series of tests where he stuck electrodes to my face and head to record my eye movements and had me follow lights with my eyes.

i escaped the one where they pour water in your ears to disrupt your balance, which has the same effect as being on the deck of a ship in a storm.

then i just had a simple hearing test, where they put you in a soundproof room and play you beeps, and you have to press a button when you hear one.

    very unscary.
