Started a new fitness programme today with consultation and everything. Hopefully this'll be the key to getting back to a good standard of fitness again and actually not being bored and seeing little in the way of results. Anyone else found that they just get bored with keep fit? How did you get over it?

It's all about varying your routine. We get loads of members coming in with the same problem, and the normal solution is to get stuck into different exercises whether it be CV, or resistance.

You'll find you should gain more by varying your exercise routines, as your body becomes accustomed to one set thang, and over time your body will work out a way to be lazy and perform the exercise whilst saving energy/being a lazy hobo.

Confused? I mean that for instance if you just cycled for 30 mins everyday, your body would slowly develop its own natural way to complete that cycle, with the minimum energy expenditure. If however you’re always changing your routines it doesn't get this chance.

Same thing can be said for weight training, if you alternate between exercises, and set patterns (i.e. 10 reps 70% ORM, Pyramid's 60%, 65%, 70% and 3*10 at 65%) then your body is constantly being presented with a new challenge, and is constantly being reminded that it's inadequate and needs to grow sharpish!

in the gym where i used to work we did consultations every six weeks...thats the average amount of time it takes your body to adapt to exercise and so we updated the clients programmes every six weeks and made them harder, put in new exercises, etc, your body needs to adapt in order to progress and to adapt there must be overload, like robobilly said, make sure you vary your routine. bring along some music and headphones to take your mind off the time, if you find yourself getting bored. also if your gym has classes you might as well try something different like spin or bodypump or something, will ease the boredom of the gym. make sure you speak to your fitness instructor about having a regular consultation or different classes the gym has. good luck!
