How important is it to belong...

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
this is a simple question, but how many of you belong to a group or some kind of group of people to socialise?

Do you think that its important to belong? should we all try to gain friends and form small groups where we form some sort of shell around us from the world?

Was just curious really, of what you all thought...

    I have friends yes :p

But I wouldn't say it's a way of forming a shell around yourself from the rest of the world, it's just normal to have mates :eek2:

    Hmmm, a difficult one.

Personally, as I'm at Uni I have a variation of many different so-called "groups" of friends - home and at Uni, and some people I have friendships with but not really in a group.

I think it can help your identity if you're in a group, but the difficulty comes to when the group dynamics fall apart - then it can be a bit disastrous!

You should have a good variety of friends.

    Yes.

I've got my mates I go out with, mates I go to the football with, mates from places I've worked at, mates I've got from uni, mates I've got back home etc.

It's funny though, hardly any of the groups tend to cross over that much, dunno why.

Yeah, made lots of new friends during the first year at Uni. Lost some of my friends from home, others I still keep in touch with just as much now, if not more than when I did when I was at home, just don't see them as often. Some friendships are a lot stronger than you think, you begin to appreciate it more when you move away.

As to the am I enjoying it? At the moment, not really, but that's just because I've 2 big assignments due in this week and am a little stressed.

im presuming u stayed on campus cus you said wen you leave home... so u think that was best choice or was it only choice?

I chose to move away - it definitely helps you become more independent, and yeah, it was very difficult to begin with, but you learn to cope with it, and I don't think you would experience Uni life really unless you were living there. I've had some bad times, even now in my second year, but if I had to choose again, I'd still move into Halls.

I have plenty of groups really! My best mates the group which i would do most things with. Certain people that i would just go out to the pubs with. Some that i paly footy with, some that i play rugby with. And school classroom mates. Some people i go town with. But alot of my friends fall into atleast 2 or 3 of these catogories.
