Stressed & nervous

Is it possible to be stressed & nervous at the same time?

Is there anyway to conquer these?

Because currently when i'm nervous or stressed or both {if possible}. I start picking at myself as in picking scabs, popping spots etc. As it happens I'm doing this now as i'm typing this :( & it's annoying me now cause I look like shit most of the time & even my sister notices me doing it now & she doesn't even live in the same town.

Little bit more info on how the situation arose:

I left 6th form in Feb this year after only 4 months of starting there. The 6th form was connected to the same secondary school which I went to so most of my friends carried on there.

But in my circle of friends there are only 3 main real true friends. 2 of them which are male went off to work & the other 1 a female stayed on at the same 6th form.

So I only had one true real friend now & she went off with this bloke in like the 1st week & ditched her friends behind which included me. So I was left on my tod:(

Anyway I made friends with this boy who was in my business studies class but he was in the loner, boffin group which was totally the opposite group which I wanted to be part off. So after 4 months of suffering I decided to leave because I was starting to go bonkers & the only thing which kept me sane was a piece of lined a4 paper which I wrote my deep psychological & extremely cryptic thoughts onto.

Also, staying up till like 3-4am or maybe even all night & not having any sleep to finish a piece of work was just ridiculous.

Anyway since leaving i've written off to the majority of the business's in my town to see if they have any jobs available but that drew a dud. So I applied to do a modern apprenticeship in accounting but there were no places at all the places which offered them in the county. So i've been doing practically nothing for nearly 8 months now & i've gradually got more stressed & nervious along the way & I need to sort this out in order for me to get my life back on track.

Otherwise i'll end up in a metaphoric sense like a little dog that has been abandoned & abused all its life & living in damp cold kennel being scared of its own shadow. Like the ones on the dogs home ad.

Cheers in advance for any help

Yes you can. When I get nervous I play with my hair, some people bite their nails, some look to the floor etc etc, you just do something slightly different.

You say you have basically done nothing for 8 months, so that could be wearing you down. Doing basically nothing for that length of time, probably sitting at home and just getting into this routine. It must be really dis heartening sending off for jobs and not getting any response which also adds to the stress you already got.

Could you go out and do some voluntary work ? it beats sitting at home doing nothing and gets you out of the house and actually doing something, or maybe get a job which is not the field you actually want to get into, but it will give you that bit of a boost knowing you can go out and get a job. I think its a confidence thing as well so once you actually get out there, get a job then you will feel much happier within yourself. If you can get a job which for the moment is not you actual chosen career when you do go for a job that you really want you can say Ive worked at blah blah for ex amount of months, I have never had a day off sick etc etc, so you actually have the experience of going out to work and they know that you do want to work.

Another thing is you say you left 6th form could you not instead go to college ? that may be better than the 6th form and you may find you actually enjoy it.

Try to get out and do things, doing the same routine day in day out is no good for anyone, I know ive been there. You need to be getting out, meeting people and building your confidence.

hope that helps a bit :)

It sounds like what you are experiencing is anxiety. The shift to the sixth form is incredibly unsettling - especially when most of your friends are not making that shift with you. We have lots of ehlpful articles that you should take a look at in the following section:

    Anxiety and stress

The other issue here is your concern over the groups you are socialising with. If you got on with the boy you made friends with then be friends with him - so what if he isn't in the group you wanted to be a part of? Take a look at the following special to read more about making friends:

    mates special

    Cheers girls & guys :thumb:

I'm now looking @ starting an AAT accounting course @ my local collage in Jan. So that should be good

I'm also thinking about getting a job over the christmas/new year period in any old place like a supermarket or shop of some-kind. Just to give me some work experience but also being paid.

I'm willing to work shit loads of hours & overtime cause I don't really like christmas so working all the time won't matter & it will keep me occupied & with money coming in I can also think about buying my 1st car but insurance is a nightmare but we'll worry about that one later :D.
