spray on hair dye, quick quick please!

Right. I bought some falls and they're black, while my hair is blonde so I've never worn them... but I'm going to a back to school night at uni tonight, and I though - aha! I could spray my hair black and wear em in really long bunches (because my hair's quite short, and layered). But I seem to remember before a friend sprayed her hair black and it was really messy so... how likely is it to come off everywhere and be really annoying? and is there anything else i can use, like gel stuff or anything?

oh - and i need to know quickly please, because I'll have to go buy it :)

    It does have a tendency to rub off on things, it smells funky and its very messy to apply. and also, in no offense to you, it looks really tacky.

    Hmm... well, I've bought it now... so I'll try it after I've washed my hair n if it looks crappy... well, I have about 3.5 hours at the mo before I have to leave, so I can just wash it again.
