can anyone tell me how much it costs to keep a cat?

my housemates are thinking of getting a kitten, but they want to know how much they'll need a month so they can figure out if they can afford it.

thanking you.

Raising the kitten costs differently depending on how much house training attention you give it. When still a kitten, you have to buy a 3kg medium bag of kitty litter every week (approximately - depending on how much it actually uses the tray + how big it's gut is!)

On the whole...cats might have an 1/10th of a pint of milk and a 50p tin of cat food every day. That works out at ROUGHLY 60p per day.

    60p x 7 = 4.20 per week.

you have to take into account vets fees too, insurance is prolly the best way.

    right.

anyone know how much it costs to insure a cat?

and i'm guessing stuff like vaccinations and microchipping isn't covered by the insurance....?

A useful resource for raising a kitten, even though it does have alot to do with BABIES.

EDIT: I got the following information from Petplan.

I had to input my own details for my kitten:

SL1. Crossbreed kitten born on 1st January this year. I was then presented with 3 levels of insurance:

    Paid monthly: 6.30, 8.40 and 13.00.

Do you specifically want to know about microchipping?

after they've grown up u dont have to worry bout food coz they get fed in about 6 other houses anyway. grow some catnip aswell, its like watching cats on poppers.

Yeah the neighbourhood can feed your cat! Just make sure it's got a cute fur coat!

    (I didn't think of that one :p )

You could always get a rescue kitten, they I beleive have had all vaccinations etc.
Not sure how it works but could be worth looking into :)

My mum has one. Its 17 years old and shits every 4 hours.

Cats, in general, do not like milk. It isn't good for them anyway. Use shredded paper instead of catlitter. Saves a fortune if your cat has sensitive paws and a weak bladder.

    Whiskas= 55p a day

Don't know about insurance though :crazyeyes

It scares me that you know how often the cat shits. :/

But like the others have said. About 60p a day and a box of dry food.
