Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
as most of you know my parents don't want me to have anything to do with my boyfriend because of recent occurances and this is obviously causing problems as to when and where we can see each other.
Next week it's my birthday and I'm already having problems over who to spend the evening with, one party is gpoing to end up upset. However, my big probelm is about my present from my bf.
Phil didnt know what to get me as theres not really anything I want! He now wants to take me away to London for the weekend to see a show. Any eekend I like so that it's convenient and he'll pay for everything.
This would be like a dream come true and I desperately want to say a definite yes to this offer. But how do I tell me parents that I want to go away fro three days with him???? Help!

I'm going to be 18 on Tuesday, that's why he wants to get me something special that I'll remember.

I think you should try explaining how much it'd mean to you to your parents. They'll want you to be happy and if this is gonna do that then they shouldn't mind.

Everytime I mention Phil, what he can get me for my birthday, when I'm seeing him next...etc, I get tuts and whines from my mum, dad, bro and sisinlaw. It's so awkward.
I've asked them to let me make my own mistakes, it's my life and I'm old enough to make my own decisions, while they don't often interfre anymore, they still make it incredibly difficult for me and make sure they let me know that they think I'm stupid.
I just don't know how to tell them that we want to go away together. I know they are only being like this because they care but it's doing my head in!

Hmmm this is really difficult, youd think that they would understand, your nearly an adult, therefore should be able to make your own decisions, and being as its your bday, youd think that they would let you (just this once) being as its a special occasion?!

Why do they dislike him so much.. if u dont mind me askin..?? (sorry if everyone else knows... i mite have missed out a bit on the info!)

clearly there's no moral barrier against you spending a weekend with him if you're over 16. eventually your family are only concerned for you; perhaps they're mistaken about him though.

so why don't they like him?

we've been together nearly 2 years and he recently kissed another girl. I have decided to forgive him after he proved how sorry he was. My parents are unwilling to do the same and won't even let him in the house

Oh... you see parents should NEVER find out about things like that, they dont tend to forgive things like that.

I understand why you gave him a second chance

Are the gunna let you go yet? Lxxx

Lucy i don't know how far your willing to go...lying wise!!!! but it might be the best option. You have to fully forgive him first so then you can confidently help your family to understand. I'd lie to them. make sure that you don't do anythign to cause a row in the house for a couple of weeks then says your going away with a mate for a girly weekend with a female friend...(make sure you tell the friend so they can be ready to lie for you!!)

Still haven't mentioned the weekend to them yet! I'm hoping he'll have bought the tickets so I can show them them as my present and then they'll have to let me go!
Going out with him tonight is also causing a problem as parents wanted to do family bbq and Phil wanted to go out for a meal, so I having to do both so's to keep them all happy! lol, at least I won't go hungry!

I still haven't arranged a date for London and I definitely haven't mentioned it to my parents yet.
Mum made a positive move today by giving me a piece of my birthday cake to give to Phil! Actually quite amazing!
The words she used tonight on the subject of my relationship were 'when you get to university you'll begin to sort your head out' as if I don't know what I'm doing...it's really annoying me.
