19M looking for friends

JMMV2005JMMV2005 Posts: 51 Boards Initiate
I’m 19 I have no friends and have never had any meaningful friendships, I’m worried I’ll just be alone for the rest of my life.

What can I do?, can I make friends here or on another part of this website?, is there any apps or any resources I can use to help?

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this I’ve just joined this website

    Hi @JMMV2005
    You've come to the right place, there are lots of friendly people here who would love to talk to you =)
    Why not start by introducing yourself here

    Sure you can make friends here! Everyone’s really nice. I’m almost 19 (female) and I don’t have any friends irl, I have friends here though!

    Hi @JMMV2005, I'm sorry you're feeling this way. It must be really tough feeling like you will be lonely for the rest of your life. But I want you to know that feeling lonely at 19 doesn't mean you'll feel this way forever. Life changes a lot, and there are many opportunities ahead where you can meet new people and form strong connections.

    Engaging in online communities such as The Mix is awesome, lots of friendly individuals here as well as friend-making apps such as Bumble BFF. Apart from online, if you are currently in education have you considered joining clubs or organisations ( sports,arts,academic clubs,etc)?
    Another good alternative for this summer is taking up a new hobby or joining volunteering groups ( Do-it.org,VolunteerMatch UK) or local sports teams as it can be a great way to meet compassionate like-minded individuals like yourself :)

    @ciabelle05 I have thought about getting friend making apps but I have no idea what to expect and it seems pretty scary to be honest, but I’m not going to rule that option out, I’ve tried looking for clubs in real life but none of them seem right for me

    I mean i kinda relate i dont have alot of actual, close friends at college. But there are alot of people on themix who are nice and maybe interact more with people you might already know?

    @JMMV2005 hi :)
    I really understand how you’re feeling and I want to start to by saying I’m so sorry you feel like this because it’s awful, but I would love to be your friend!! Secondly, even if it may not feel like it now, I can promise, from my own experience, it will get better. I used to struggle with not having many real friends and feeling like the friends I did have didn’t really like me or understand me and it took me a while to realise that it wasnt actually my fault because these people weren’t the right people for me.

    Ive learnt over time that even if it seems impossible at first, there is a group of people out there who will love you for who you are and make you feel excepted and happy beyond what you can imagine, even if it takes time!! You deserve good people in your life who make you happy and I would love to help<3

    @stardust444 Thank you!

    I’ve come to the conclusion I’ve just gotta find confidence in myself before I can make friends but that could take a while, hopefully I’ll find the right group in time, other people I used to hang out with weren’t right at all for me on reflection, we pretty much fell out of touch after some time

    I’m not going to try and fit in with people thats for sure instead I’m just going to try and find others with similar mindsets to me

    @JMMV2005 I completely agree, you should not have to change yourself to fit in. Goodluck, I hope everything goes well for you<3

    @stardust444

    Thank you

    Also I forgot to mention on my last comment but I’d like to be your friend to if that’s alright

    I completely forgot to address that on my last comment sorry

    @JMMV2005 thats okay!! I was hoping you wanted to do because that would be great<3
    A bit about me is I’m 16 and I just started my a levels (I do psych, business and art!) and I love music and watching movies. Do you have a favourite singer or band??
  • JMMV2005JMMV2005 Posts: 51 Boards Initiate
    @stardust444 About favourite singers and bands… I’m not really sure what is my favourite if I’m 100% honest…

    I can tell you some of my favourite films though, the newer James Bond films I practically grew up watching so there some of my faves, I used to be really into star wars when I was younger but I’ve sort of lost interest as I got older, I watched The Lord Of The Rings Triology for the first time last year and now it’s my new favourite thing, I’ve been reading the original books lately too, I wish I could find people my age who are interested in LOTR but I feel thats unlikely lol.

    I’m currently working in an ice cream factory… yes an ice cream factory lol, but I’ve got a carpentry course I’m doing from home which will hopefully lead somewhere

    Also sorry if I sometimes take a while to reply, I’ll overthink what I should reply and then that delays me replying, and I tend to forgot sometimes or I get distracted by other things, but I’ll make sure I reply lol

    @JMMV2005 No worries I get that, I’ve only recently found music that I really enjoy but now I literally can’t imagine my life without it😭 (if you want any recommendations lmk I have pretty varied taste)

    I have to be honest I’ve never watched any James Bond films but I do love the song No time to die that Billie eilish wrote for one! I’ve also never tried watching lord of the rings but I know a lot of people love it so I’m sure it’s good (might have to try watch it)

    Working in an ice cream factory sounds honestly really cool!! I hope it’s pretty fun and carpentry sounds so interesting. I’m sure it could lead somewhere great ❤️

    And don’t worry about how long it takes you to reply, i completely understand and relate to that, there’s no pressure<3

    @stardust444 The Lord Of The Rings are quite long films, especially if you watch the extended editions like I did, but there very good so I believe the more run time the better, just make sure you have a whole afternoon or evening free if you watch one lol
  • stardust444stardust444 Posts: 68 Boards Initiate
    @JMMV2005 I love when my fav movies are long!! I’ll definitely give them a try at some point. Sorry it took me a while to reply, I went to Edinburgh for a couple days (it was so pretty).
    I don’t know about you but I’m currently on half term and I’m so happy because I honestly needed a break from school 😭😭

    Are you doing anything fun for Halloween (if you celebrate it)? I’m so excited, it’s one of my favourite times of the year
  • JMMV2005JMMV2005 Posts: 51 Boards Initiate
    @stardust444 I’d love to go to Edinburgh and the highlands, Scotland looks incredible, I’m in the far south of England so it would be a trek but worth it, I really want to start travelling at some point, thats another interest of mine

    And I don’t really do much for Halloween, I’m too old to trick or treat and I can’t really think of anything I can do lol
  • stardust444stardust444 Posts: 68 Boards Initiate
    @JMMV2005 yess you definitely should one day, it was so pretty especially specially at this time of year!! I also love travelling, sometimes I forget how pretty the UK actually is and then I get shocked because there’s so much to see.

    I definitely get that with Halloween. I like to say people are never too old to do something for it because it makes me sad when I think one day I’ll be too old to celebrate it😭😭

    Even if you can’t trick or treat, personally I think it’s fun to do stuff like bake Halloween themed recipes or watch scary movies (or not even scary, just autumn vibe ones)

    I LOVE making cinnamon rolls they are my fav and my fav autumn movies are probs Coraline and Fantastic Mr Fox (even if they’re both kinda aimed at children I think they’re so cute)

    @stardust444 Yeah I always took for granted how nice the UK really is, but now I’m older I really appreciate it, I mean there are some parts that are a bit ugly but theres tons of nice parts too and thankfully I live in one, Scotland appeals to me because England can be quite industrial but Scotland looks quite remote and untouched, I also want to go to Oxford and see all the architecture and interesting things, hopefully there will be some Tolkien stuff too (Tolkien is the man who wrote the original LOTR books if you didn’t know, and he was a teacher at Oxford), I want to explore Europe too in the future, and one day I want to go to Japan, looks a fascinating country.

    And about Halloween, I really cant think how to celebrate it now I’m older, maybe I can think of something next year.

    @JMMV2005 yess I actually live kinda near Oxford and it is so pretty!! I’m happy you live somewhere nice.

    I went to Paris with my friend and family after my GCSEs and it was such a cool experience. Japan is also on my list, hopefully one day you do get to go!!

    @stardust444 Seems like you travel a lot lol, I don’t even know how to start planning travels, maybe I need to research the places before I visit, I think I’ll make a list of places I want to go
  • stardust444stardust444 Posts: 68 Boards Initiate
    @JMMV2005 Im definitely very lucky that I’m able to currently, I’m hoping that when I move out I’ll be able to continue but I know it will be a lot harder 😭😭 definitely do make a list though that would be a great place to start.

    One plsce that’s on my list is New York but honestly a road trip across the whole of America would be so cool

    @stardust444 I think my plan is Scotland first, then through Europe, then I get a bit more exotic and go to places like asia and America, maybe even Australia, but I’m worried about the bugs, like I wouldn’t be able to sleep knowing there are giant spiders about
  • JMMV2005JMMV2005 Posts: 51 Boards Initiate
    @eylah Sure! I’m up for that 😁
