Hey

I just wanted to share this link as thought was interesting read and maybe helpful. It was something that was mentioned in group therapy. And someone said that in Brighton they have a group of people struggling with mental illness that go to the cold sea in winter to help with their mental health and said soemthing the nhs was wondering about treatment or something

“Immersion in cold water evokes a stress response: a set of physiological and hormonal reactions that evolved millions of years ago to cope with a wide range of potential threats.

Animal attack, jumping in cold water and sitting an exam all elicit a similar response.

Heart rate, blood pressure and breathing rate all increase and stress hormones are released. “

And we was talking about try this on a smaller scale of just having a very cold shower when i feel like self harm - can help. And also apperently holding on an ice cube helps aswell. Actually  painfully cold as shocks the system and what not. But anyway Feel like people are sometimes quite skeptical and dismissive of that method of holding ice ect - so just wanted to share

“And when they look at you, they won't see everything you've been through. They won't see the **** that turned to scars that began to fade with time. They won't see the heartbreaking things that shook up and changed your entire world. They won't know how many tears you cried or even what it was you were crying about. They won't see how strong you had to be because you had no other choice. What they will see though is how compassionate you are because you experienced pain. What they will see is how kind you are because you experienced how cruel the world is. What they will see is how good you are because you've seen how bad things or people can be. The difference between you and your experiences are who you choose to be, despite everything that could have turned you cold and unkind. You are the good the world needs and the best of us.” ~ Kirsten Corley

Thanks so much for sharing @Shaunie. Sharing this sort of idea is a great way to utilise these boards... And you may help someone you've never spoken to before :) if you (or anyone else who reads this thread) decide to try this technique, let us know how it goes!

This is really interesting. Thanks for sharing @Shaunie :)
Maybe somethings don't get better, but we do. We get stronger. We learn to live with our situations as messy and ugly as they are. We fix what we can and we adapt to what we can't. Maybe some of us will never fully be okay, but at least we're here. We're still trying. We're doing the best we can. That's worth celebrating too ❤
