Hi. Does anyone know if I can go to my gp to ask to go on the pill or do I have to go to a sexual health clinic? (Probably a stupid question for a 20 yr old) ahaJanuary 17 Comment

NetNineYou can go to either. It doesn't really matter (:
You should be able to get contraceptives at either place for free. Your GP may only be able to give out one type (Microgynon) there and then, while a clinic is guaranteed to have a wider range available. If you're looking for emergency contraception, you may be given EllaOne (specific brand of emergency pill) and a prescription of a pill which you must start on a certain date after taking the emergency pill. If you think you are having negative side effects (like I did with Microgynon - my mood became awful), you can discuss it with either the clinic or your GP & it does not matter who you went to before (however, if you initially visited your GP, you should update them on whatever changes are made to your BC). You may be asked to finish the course (3 months for pills, 9 months for injections, not sure about other options) as your body may still be regulating. It is also advised that you don't jump between multiple kinds of BC to frequently as it can upset your body. If the women in your family have any history of reproductive issues, make sure to discuss it at the appointment, as it may affect you and the type of BC you take. -
ShaunieThank you. Thought they may only give it to people who have problems with their period or something
