The regulation of business

Positive discrimination legislation prevents a business from hiring whom it chooses.

Who is to say that a business cannot discriminate in its hiring?

A business should be FREE to hire whom it chooses.

mono ...how much more of this crap you got in your head? no matter how many times you post it with different titles and topics your whole point since you have been here seems to be ..."why can't we all do what we please". then you move on when you find yourself admitting that yes there has to be a law etc etc. but you don't realy move on. you start a new thread like this one ...should be alowed to hire who they want ...very much the same as ...i should be able to do anything i want with my property.
do you see where i'm coming from?

    Positive discrimination is UNJUST!!! :)

The state shouldn't force employers to be politically correct and employ people of a specific race.

I agree with monocrat, their shouldn't be discrimination but their also shouldn't be positive discrimination either.
I hate having to tick my race when filling out forms.

Don't some places have to employ a certain number of <insert ethnicity here> according to the law?

I mean, political correctness can go too far...

Wrongo. I think it's sad we have to have affirmative action programs. Without affirmative action programs you will have areas of extreme poverty with frequent riots where people are hopeless. Employed people will have areas of the country they don't go into for fear of crime. And society as a whole will lose because productive people are being kept from contributing to society.

I am much more concerned about jobs going off shore than affirmative action.

There is no law to state that a certain number of white / black / men / women / humans / dogs etc need to be employed. There are only laws to state that they cannot discriminate on these basis'.

A firm can hire who it chooses, are you being dim? Firms do hire however they want to, they just cannot state in ads etc that "women need not apply" or "no blacks here".

Ahhh, but thats wrong! They can say 'women only' for certain jobs, I've seen them, its in the sex discrimination act.

Just pointing out the etiquette, which is something you signed up to when you joined the boards. You've been here long enough to know that.
