well, let me inform you :p

Cannabis is a plant. Completely natural. Yet, our "fine justice system" decides that this plant should be completely outlawed. Maybe they should try outlawing dandelions?

When smoking cannabis, you become very peacefull and happy. It would be hard to fight somebody when you're stoned, because you would be too peacefull to bother. Yet, as you said, our justice system is "fine" so people should be persecuted for this.

i'm going to have to agree with mobilydoughnut here to some extent. having had a lot of experience with the justice system i agree that on the whole it is pretty good. we live in one of the best systems in the world. one of the best systems devised by man ...ever. we should realise how lucky we are. take a look around the world and look at some of the alternatives.
yes of course there are fualts and failings and unjust laws ...we will never get perfection. women couldn't vote at one time ...they fought back and won. some of us are fighting other unjust laws and we WILL ...win in the end becuase ...we do live in a reasonably just society. common sense will prevail.

On the whole I'd say th English Legal system is pretty good, where I do think its lets people down is on how victims are treated.

Being able to be sued by another person who has come into your home with the intent of committing a crime is a joke.
If you choose a life of crime you should accept that there will be risks involved, not just that you could go to jail but that you could have your head smashed in and not be able to sue the person you were trying to rob.

Also financial compensations are too low in many cases - in the USA they are often too damn high and stupid figres come out of some cases - but in the UK damages can be so small it's still profitable to do wrong.

Look at the Sara Cox thing in the paper - publishing naked pictues of her on her Honey Moon... I'm sure they sold a load moe papers that day .. and what was the compensation £50,000 - that's nothing to a national newspaper. The Editor should be made to strip naked and have his picture splashed across the paper. He should also have been locked up for spreading Porn. Maybe some of our legal experts can tell me why the Editor isn't in jail at the moment? Does he still have his job? British Tabloid have too much power to ruin people's lives and write misleading or totally made up stories. The Jarold Ratner thing springs to mind - anyone remember that?

What do people think about the 3 strikes and you're out rule that they have in America? I think one guy inthe USA got 25 years for stealing a pizza. Jerry Dewayne Williams, at the age of 27, was sentenced to prison for 25-years-life for stealing a slice of pepperoni pizza. His crime was a petty theft, but, because of California state law and because of his prior record, Williams theft was classified as a "felony." Williams prior convictions were for robbery, attempted robbery, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance. See Eric Salter, Pizza Thief Receives Sentence of 25 Years to Life in Prison, LATimes, Mar. 3, 1995, at 9B.
