India/Pakistan peace deals...

I'm sure we all remember High Lord and Master of all he Surveys, Rt Hon Tony Blair's recent flying visit to Asia where he singlehandedly solved the India/Pakistan conflict, well I'm sure you'll love the irony in the following...

From 19-23 February the British High Commission in Delhi is hosting a group of British Arms Traders as they attend a weapons fair in the city.

The fair is being advertised as offering the usual assortment of 'defensive' weaponry and the organisers are keen to stress the "recent politican developments taking place in south asia" and points out that the event has been "timed perfectly".

Also worth noting is the Ministry of Defense agency - the Defense Export Sales Org (DESO) - whose sole raison d'etre is promoting the sales of British made arms. DESO has recently told parliament of its annoyance at the embargo on sales to Pakistan stating that both countries had been "identified by DESO as highly valuable priority markets for the UK [arms] industry to target".

So, at the moement that the PM is promoting himslef, sorry I mean peace, his own agencies are actively trying to arm both sides in the conflict.

A triumph for British industry <IMG alt="image" SRC="biggrin.gif" border="0">

+++++++++++

And before anyone goes off on one, this isn't a Steelgate-type rant designed to promote the boycott of anyones goods, nor am I asking you to attend a pathetic rally.

This is really about the irony. Personally I find it hilarious, but then I guess I should get out more...
