Not sure how true this is but just got sent it.
I have been informed of the following scam
It has been reported that if you receive a telephone call from an individual who identifies himself/herself as being an AT & T Service Technician who is conducting a test on that line, or if anyone else asks you to do the following - DON'T.
They will state that to complete the test the Recipient should dial nine, zero and press the hash key (90#) and then hang up. This will give them full access to your telephone line, which allows them to place long distance, international or chat-line calls. These are then billed to your account.
This information has been verified by British Telecom who have informed the Police, so do not press 90# for anyone.

Back in the days of alalouge PBX's you could send the 9 tone down the line and get it to transfer the call yourself....

hmmmm..... my job sometimes involves ringing random people asking for their postcode (amongst other things).
havent had to do that for a while now i wonder if this is why.........
