Death, Death, Death,...

This is a fascinating theme that eminates from threads in this forum; some of the bases being that: "reform", "rehabilitation", "protection of the public",..., are not viable for reasons already espoused by members of this BB.

However, I just wonder if there is a lack of creativity of thought upon the issues of dealing with 'criminals', alleged 'traitors',... Are 'we' taking the 'easy way out' when dealing with some of our most challenging problems?

I'm sure that most of you will agree that 'one size does not fit all', so has anyone got any 'creative' alternatives - (besides the usual rhetoric) - *humour me*.

No offence, but I found that quite hard to understand-either I'm thick or you're unclear..Anyway here's my suggestions
* Stick them on a remote island all together
* Use them in damien hirst-style art peices
* Clean the sewers

No offence and my apologies if my post is obtuse.

However, I'm sure that you can appreciate that it can be tricky to ask a question on this forum and maintain impartiality without qualifying one's remarks - (my challenge anyway)

I'm probably not politically correct enough to properly address your question...and your english is different enough from ours that I'm not quite sure what you are asking.

Anyway, who gives a flying f**k about the 'lesser man' of the world. They can't be fixed, they're perfect just the way they are...we just nead to clean house and get rid of them...send them packing back to their thirdworld shithole to share what they have learned amoung us, US, or you!

Time to get out of the 'fixit' business with people...if they don't already match the requirements for what passes for citizenship then don't allow them in in the first place.

If they preach and practice a doctrine that commands them to kill us, islam for example, then rid ourselves of them we must by any means necessary...I better quit before I start sounding like I support ethnic cleansing and abandoning the UN...that sort of stuff.

The liberal stuff sounds just fine until there is a war...then it becomes a souless doctrine for traitors, as perceived.

When you've got a rabid dog running loose, attacking and biting people, you do not "open a dialogue" with it, you do not reason with it, you do not bribe it, you do not "re-educate" it ("A Clockwork Orange" comes to mind, thankew Mr Kubrick)... all are exercises in futility. You simply END it.

Violent criminals who kill, you END them, for the good of the general public. You are NOT going to change them, any more than a feral animal once it tastes human blood, and loses its fear of man. The feral human has no fear of consequences. Although it offends the sensitivities of the liberal left, capital punishment DOES deter the violent potential violent offender AS MUCH AS ANYTHING CAN.

Either way, just close the book, rather than dragging the story endlessly at incredible cost...

I think Squinty is asking us for reasons on why we support the death penalty, not rants. And because she is a Mod she isn't allowed to comment with her own views.

I started a topic up like this a long time ago, when there were a couple more lefties on the boards as well, it did help to give a more varied response to the question.

I feel that capital punishment should be a last resort punishment. Reserved for terrorists, mass murderers, treason during wartime and paedophiles who have reoffended or committed an extraordinarily serious crime.
There has to be 100% proof, ie.from DNA evidence, CCTV footage, or taped confession. It must be a decision that is made by a judge, a jury has no right in deciding the fate of a suspected paedophile as their views are clouded over by the crime. Juries are biased against suspects in high profile cases, and in others for example treason it may be against national interests for Joe Public to know the exact details of events.

I believe that in these circumstances, death is the most effective form of punishment, and the most efficient. If a criminal cannot be rehabilitated, or has committed a crime so heinous as to warrant a life imprisonment then there may also have to be a chance of death.

It has been shown in countries like the USA that the death penalty is NOT a deterrent for lesser offences such as murder and rape. People are still killed off by the bucket load in the USA, and people are still raped, the threat of death is no good as they know they will have 11 years to make their case ect. It will only be effective as a last resort.

Maybe so, but it has been proven that the death penalty is not a deterrent. Whats the point of killing people off if more people are gonna do the same thing either.
In the USA, it costs more to put a criminal to death than it does to keep them imprisoned for 20 years.

The death penalty is only useful for the likes of traitors and terrorists who can still cause trouble while they are alive.

The effects of a prison are equally devistating on prisoner and guard alike...indeed, the ol pirate kingdom once had a pretty good solution...export the malfactors to the colonies, unconvicted to US, convicted to Australia...then they made the mistake of staying and supervising the charges instead of simply ridding themselves of the problem.

Some rotten bastards simply need to be put out of their misery though...and without a lot of fanfair and expense. dp is pricey in US because of all the trials and appeals...a bullet, piece of rope, few watts of electricity, the needle...all come within the ammount of a few pennies...application a few dollars more.

I admit to favoring what we are all now calling 'ethnic' cleansing when you get a group like the islamics who preach and practice hatred for others and emplement those pp with acts of violent terror. Just pack them off to wherever they came from...and hope they learned a bit 'here' to make life better back home.

Just because you don't agree with it does not mean it is a rant.

Murder is a "lesser" crime, only use capital punishment for "mass murder"... does that mean that a victim's life has such an insignificant value that a CAPITAL CRIME does not merit CAPITAL PUNISHMENT???

Actually, our solution was not good Diesel. We sent those "prisoners" to Australia thinking it was a fertile paradise. Many of those sent had been convicted of petty crimes ranging from street robbery to affray. People actually wanted to be sent to Australia as they were not told what lay in store for them, they thought they were taking part in the construction of a new bastion of the British empire. The reality is that many starved to death.

All I am saying Thanatos, is that capital punishment is not a detterent, and it is far costlier to the taxpayer to execute someone than it is to keep them locked up, what with all the appeals processes e.t.c.
It is only useful for getting rid of people who can still cause problems even inside prison. Imagine what would happen if OBL was imprisoned instead of executed, numerous rescue attempts, threats if he isnt released e.t.c. Imagine how seriously they would be taken if a common murderer was imprisoned.
