Schizophrenia

I've got a mate that's worried because he's started to think he's going insane. Sometimes he thinks and acts differently and dreams during the daytime then can't remember where he was. I think this could be early symptons of schizophrenia.

What I want to know is who should he see about it? A normal doctor? I know someone else that suffers from this but he has pills to take and things are fine. Hopefully thanks to my advice he'll have caught this early enough to have it treated before anything bad happens. Any advice would be a help, cheers

I'd get him to a doctor. If not schizophrenia then s/he will be able to tell what it is, and prescribe anything necessary.

Ok thanks I will but to what doctor? A normal one? A special one? I have no idea

He's been kinda depressed for years, thats just who he is so I dont think that would have anything to do with it

I guess he should go to a normal one, who would then probably refer him to a special one or something?

Just go and see a normal doctor and then he/she will send him onot some who deals with this kinda thing. If he is depressed then it could really have somthing to do with the is thinking at the moment. It can affect people in many diferent ways.

I'd take him to a 'normal' one first, then go from his/her diagnosis.

He should see a normal doctor first then he may get referred to a specialist, normally one of three things happens to schizophrenics.
Either they have one episode that is treated with pills and they have no recurring symptoms. Or they have occasional episodes of it, or if they have a very bad case they can suffer from it for the rest of their life. If it is then I hope it's the first one:)
