It should be measured from the base by the pubic bone to the tip. Not the underside from the ballsack which addes length but is a false reading.
From a male point of view, please dont be worried. My size is just under 8 (which in reality I dont see as that big) but I have been told it is wide.
To begin with I felt very embaressed. If you dont know what your doing, which inevitably I didnt at first, it can be just as embaressing for the male (providing he cares). I was so scared (and sometime still are) of hurting the person that I was with that it became awkward.
