Forwarded from Phil (Old Smokie)

Quantum Leaf and Good Buddy's, Worthin raided simultaniously.

At 11.30 am Wednesday morning the Good Buddy and Quantum leaf Coffeshops, Worthing were raided by the police.

Chris was arrested at the Quantum Leaf and I was arrested at the Good Buddy.

Both of us were released, Chris, again, on police bail for supply and me charged with possesion, (all the weed and hash in the cafe, not much though).

Both Coffeeshops were re-open within minuites of the police leaving and 50 people protested outside the police station with banners.

There were customers arguing with the police trying to get in while the police were still in the building and a local shopkeeper, on camera, came out playing hell with the police for bringing the area down, saying it was them the police that was the problem, not us.

Both Chris and Myself will be opening the coffeeshops as normal tomorrow

Both coffeshops had only days before become the official headquaters of the West and East Worthing Legalise Cannabis Alliance, a registered political party in the uk and Alun Buffry, the LCA national co-ordinator has given support at a national level and the LCA consider this search on 2 political headquaters infringes the European Human Rights Laws regarding political freedom.

A Protest is being organised for Monday morning outside Worthing Magistrates Court with more details to follow.

PLEASE FORWARD AS WIDE AS POSSIBLE

From Chris, Trev, Winston, Oldsmokie and the Worthin Missive.

STAY HIGH

    Café drugs raid No2

    caferaid.jpg

Here's a copy & paste from 'This is Worthing', as they only keep news up for a few days - twats!

Police enter Chris Baldwin's café in Rowlands Road

A cannabis campaigner's Amsterdam-style coffee shops in Worthing were raided during a police crackdown on drugs.

Operation Thor involved about 30 officers in a series of raids across Worthing, targeting people believed to be involved in drugs, burglary, violence and vehicle crimes.

Among the 15 addresses visited yesterday were the cafes owned by Chris Baldwin, who stood as the Legalise Cannabis Alliance candidate for East Worthing and Shoreham in the last General Election.

The Quantum Leaf cafe in Rowlands Road and Buddy's Hydroponics cafe in Brougham Road were both raided at 11.30am.

Officers arrested Mr Baldwin and one other person at Quantum Leaf on suspicion of drugs-related offences. Another person was arrested at Buddy's for suspected possession of cannabis.

Quantum Leaf is based in the back room of the Bongchuffa smoking accessories shop.

Police had previously raided the cafe on November 27, making 12 arrests. Mr Baldwin reopened the cafe the following day and said he was determined to keep serving customers.

Chief Inspector Ross Whitfield, Worthing's new district commander, said yesterday: "The cannabis cafe has been raided again because we cannot condone people who have such a flagrant disregard for the law.

"Our aim is to put them before a court, so the court can decide their future."

Legalise Cannabis Alliance campaigner Sarah Chalk, who was working in Quantum Leaf at the time of yesterday's raid, promised the cafe would remain open.

She said: "This coffee shop is part of the community. People love this place. It is part of what they like about Rowlands Road."

Before officers rushed into the cafes, a number of dawn raids had taken place throughout the town.

A police spokesman said a total of 12 people had been arrested during Operation Thor, including two suspected burglars. Another target was arrested on suspicion of possessing crack cocaine.

Mr Whitfield said the timing of the raids, just before Christmas, was intentional.

He said: "We want to lock these people up for the Christmas period so the rest of Worthing has a pleasant and happy one.

"This is one of many days we'll be doing in the future. We are trying to create the culture for the people that commit crime and mess up other people's lives, that we're going to do the same to them."

Owner of the two cafes is Chris Baldwin is a wheelchair-bound MS sufferer and stood in the last general election, in Worthing, for the Legalise Cannabis Alliance.

    Further up date from Worthing:

The Worthing missive intend fighting back at these 3 raids over 2 weeks by opening another coffeeshop in Worthing shortly after Xmas and there are 2 people/groups opening also before the end of July.

[that would make a total of FIVE cafes in ONE seaside town! ]

Alun Buffrey, Legalise Cannabis Alliance National Coordinator visiting Worthing yesterday quoted.

“I’m sure that the people of Worthing can sleep far easier in their beds tonight, knowing that the police have tracked down all the pedophiles who are living in the area and not registered on the sex offenders register, arrested all known class a drug dealers in the town, arrested all the burglars, muggers, and the violent drunks that come out of the towns pubs late at night and hundreds of other criminals in the area, for they must have done so for them to be able to consider yesterdays raids on Bongchuffa and Buddy’s Hydroponics of a high enough priority to mount raids of this proportion which must have cost the rate and tax payers of Worthing tens of thousands of pounds over the past few weeks.”
