What does GOP stand for??????

I have been reading loads of stuff on American politics and the GOP keeps appearing again and again and again!

I have searched my text books and internet for the meaning of the abrev but, after much searching, i have concluded the GOP must be such a baby term in US politics everyone but me much know what the GOP is.

Can some one please help!

    I believe its a name for the Republican party..

    'Grand Old Party' I believe...Not such a baby term, its totally ancient in US politics :)

    Republicans want less government, programs, people in the government, and a strong defense. Democrats want all of these social programs, bigger government, higher taxes to pay for it which they see as equality. Republicans were always thought of being out for the rich.
