Jeez, did anyone see the the documentary on teen-witches on Channel 4 last night?

Okay.. they went to 'Waterstones' to buy books on witch-craft. Does anyone know the ISBN number for "The Necronomicon", 1st edition, written in blood, and bound in the hides of unspeakable beasts, author Abdul Alhazred (AKA the mad arab)?

And when they get the book back home, what do they cast spells for? Money to buy that "really nice coat". Please tell me that there is more to occult counter culture than avarice and a desire to be different.

I watched the beginning but couldn't bare to sit through the whole thing. I was thinking "these girls have seen The Craft one too many times" & then when one of them actually mentioned the film, I just couldn't make myself watch any more

& the commentator didn't know what she was talking about either. Someone tell Channel Four that there's no such thing as pure white magic

yeah, but i thought the episode about youth drug taking was just as bias towards the stupid and pathetic...

Sancho : books on withc-craft do exist and are published still, and while they don't tell you how to raise the dead they do educate on matters like self-empowerment and discovery of the self.

I guess it really depends on your veiw of witch craft.

I don't watch it, but I am of the opinion that they were probably just trying to be trendy.

I saw some adverts for it and I have to say that people who do follow Wicca and so forth wouldn't go to Waterstone's to buy books about it. Trust me on this one. They were trying to be trendy.

Actually I got a couple of decent wiccan books from Waterstone's. Though my ex has got one of them now.

yeah, it is possible to pick up some OK wicca books in waterstones/ottakars, etc. However, if you want a wide range, you go online or to a specialist bookshop, like the one off leicester square. Watkins, i think it's called, though it may have changed hands since i last was there... i don't need to leave my house now i have the internet :D
And no, that's not the only teenage sub culture of wiccans... there are teenagers that practise the craft properly. There was some LOOOOONG thread floating around here a while ago, which gives a proper view on it. Eventually. I practice wicca, and i couldn't bear to watch that programme. I wanted to either kill them (yes, goes against all wiccan idealogies, i don't care, they deserved it!) or myself. I compromised, and turned off the tv instead.

Probably a good plan. It's on tonight again, I think, so you might want to avoid telly then, too. :D
