hiya, wasn't sure which board to post this on so i hope i chose the right one! basically after reading various posts i'm kinda confused about the whole pregnancy/period thing. If its possible that you can still get your period even if you're pregnant how can a sexually active person ever know for sure that shes not pregnant? For example a mate of mine had unprotected sex, took the morning after pill a couple of days later and has since had something like 2 periods which we all automatically presume means shes ok, not pregnant etc. but just cos shes got a period does it necessarily mean that? I think we're guessing the depth of my confusion here! any advice (?) or some kind of light shed on the matter would be much appreciated. thanks!

i know what you mean though. im on the pill, but the periods i have are just what they call breakthrough bleeding and arent a real period. and dont prove you're pregnant. which is a bit scary. i think id have noticed if i was pregnant by now though, and as i seem to be losing weight i doubt it! not had much of a chance to lately either. so im guessing thats ok. also, i take 3 packs at once then a 7 day break, which is kinda scary in the way of "am i/arent i pregnant"..

She can't know for sure. Ergo, if you don't want to get pregnant, don't have sex. Makes perfect sense to me.....yet there are all these teenage pregnancies because everyone thinks sex is such a great thing that they can't possibly wait until a baby wouldn't be the end of the world, because after all you can have an abortion if anything goes wrong....grrrrrr.
*apologises in advance to anyone this offends, it's something I feel strongly about but I know that most people don't share my views*

What offends me wildchild is that people DO see abortion as a form of birth control. Agree with you there.
But sex IS great and you can't hide that, SO what we do is try to educate youngsters that contraception is a good idea. So we say that girls should take the pill, blokes should wear rubber and that babies really fuck up you life if you are a teenager. SO be careful ou there.
As for the problem, no she won't know for certain but it is rare for periods to happen while a woman is pregnant. Why don't the pair of you see family planning - its anonymous and they will give free advice and free condoms if you don't want to take the pill.

also agree there. i am pro-choice if it happens, in an accident type situation, not one that means you couldnt be bothered to get the emergency contraceptive, or couldnt be bothered to use a condom or take the pill properly. but then i wouldnt say that someone *couldnt* have an abortion if they were just lazy. but i wouldnt think very highly of them for it.
