Facing the possibility of being fired and problems with co-workers.

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,328 The Mix Honorary Guru
Probelms with co-workers, I know I've made a thread to do with along the lines of this before, but it has gotten worse as I'll explain below. It started of with a problem with two workers, shall call them Worker W and Worker C. Both these workers had always hated me, Worker C from the moment I started. Things calmed down a little but over the past few weeks have started up again. Saturday night, my knee went out of place 3 hours before the end of my shift (it's a normal thing for me) Paul my Line Manager knew what happened and thew me the keys to go and open the doors for the others to put the stuff in, Worker W screamed at me and slammed me into a wall for not being able to lift a bucket. Worker C is just being her usual self, being rude, cheeky, snappy, calling all sorts.

On Sunday night when I went into work, I was pulled to the side by Paul (Line Manager) saying that management wanted a word with me when my shift was over. Once my shift was over both me and Paul made our way to the office where I was introduced to Anne (main owner, only see her if your in bother) Soon as I seen Anne my reaction was 'Oh shit whatever this is it's serious' there was a few others there too, few other owners and my manager Kenny.

They started going though all these statements that they had gathered from other workers, I had to stop them and ask them what where they on about as I had no idea. Turns out, two members of staff that work in the same part of the amusements as me made up this false statement and spread it around work, when they where questioned who they heard it from they said me...

I've had countless meetings with management talking about this, and more and more members of staff are getting involved, the other members of staff that are getting involved have all said that they have heard this statement from Worker C and Worker W. I've had problems in the past with both Worker C and Worker W, which would explain this.. They have openly admitted to me infront of customers that they want me fired. But management are still saying that I started this statement.. Despite not having heard a thing about it till I was pulled in.

Paul and Kenny have spoke to me on my own as well a number of different times and I've told them that I've not done anything. I had never heard the statement till you told me about it in the office. But both are saying that there's a huge chance I could lose my job because of what's happened even though I've not done anything.

Before anyone say's it, I have started looking for another job, and no I can't just walk out of this one, I've got a family to support so before I leave this one I need to have another job in place.

I just I don't know what to do anymore.. Sorry..

    Hey there
Really sorry to hear you are going through a tough time at work. Must be really hard to go to work and put on a brave face when it might feel like you don't know who you can trust.
Does it say anything in your contract about what the procedure is to resolve disputes or grievances?
You might find it helpful to call ACAS who can give you more specialist advice and information -http://m.acas.org.uk/index.aspx?articleid=2042

You would think the line manager would have a contract in place for new workers to sign to say u agree with the terms and conditions. I don't understand that sorry. Not ur fault of course not, it's the way the company is run.

I don't know what happened at ur meeting but I hope it went ok. I'm sure u will be fine. You haven't done anything wrong, ur the victim in this. I know there's no proof that they have done anything to u but u wouldn't lie about this and that shows u were brave enough to go to it manager.

How u feeling today? They wouldn't be able to fire you without enough of a good reason. I know u haven't done anything wrong so I dont think u would get fired. Good to see that ur keeping strong and not many people can do that.

    I'm here if u wanna talk x

That sound good to u? I'm here if u wanna talk :)

When I took the job I was not given a contract, it's not something that members of staff need over here.

Meeting was pointless.. Just telling me the same thing over and over again... So I don't really know anymore. Sorry.
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,328 The Mix Honorary Guru
Whether they 'need' it or not, members of staff should have a contract.

I noticed 'Ireland' in your profile, if it's the Republic of Ireland then the following may be of use to you.

I don't have a contract at all. They are just starting them out, a new member of staff that I work with he has one. When I took the job, I was told nothing about my hours just told to be there at 5am the next day. That was is. I did not know what I was for doing, how to do it and more..Sorry..
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,328 The Mix Honorary Guru
That's not good You would think where u start work u would have one to have to sign but that's not good say if someone don't consider the rules. I don't know why the line manager hasn't got this in place. What kind of interview was it when u need for the job?

You know that u haven't done anything wrong and yh maybe they can't do anything about it so it could just be that u need to stay with this one whilst u can look for another job. Good that u got the nursery but u want go still look for other job in mean time.

Don't worry about it. They will be caught out sometime. You should carry on as normal and keep observe what they are doing and if anything happens again then keep complaining about it cuz they have to listen at sometime. What did the manager say?

Good person I know and u don't deserve this. You got everyone on here so u have support anyway. I'm glad that ur staying strong eventhough nothing happened, though u can get a better job in time so don't have to be there forever. Talk to someone if u can. Anyone u know. Hope that helps x
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,328 The Mix Honorary Guru
I've not mentioned the nursery job before... How do you know about that...?

Interview was like well an interview...

There's no point in telling me not to worry about it. If it was you in this situation would you not be worrying? I've got a family to support with out me working we will become homeless. That's a cause for worrying.
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,328 The Mix Honorary Guru
Yh but if u worry more and more about it it's only gonna drive u crazy and I don't want u to is what I'm saying cuz u seem to be doing ok. Your a strong person and shouldn't let this put u one step back. I know its easy to say but u are strong and u have come along way so u can get through this.

You won't be there forever so there's no need to think that ur life is gonna be like this forever cuz it isn't as u will get a better job and u would be moving forward. Got people on here to support u anytime which ur comfortable of doing and u they are on the journey as u are. Don't have to worry about not having no one for support cuz u do.

I know u got I'm sure at least one friend for support. You can turn to them even if there their to listen and not judge. Always good to speak to someone cuz u feel a bit better after or atleast braver to face it and not let them get one step of u over, ur doing well trust me. Have me as friend and u can talk to me.

Have the nursery, got friends on here for support, some family aaswell to talk to even if it will take time to get along with ur family again, someone from work u can talk to without feeling on ur own at work, looking for other jobs soon to gain a better career for u and u being strong and not giving up on what's going on cuz u didn't end up giving up did u? Your still here brave as.

There's more on the site pages if u would like look for her if u want it as it may not be for u right now but it's more important to carry on as u are as ur doing a good job being brave and strong. You are and I'm not changing my mind on that even u don't agree or u do. I don't know ur circumstances though from what u said it could be also u don't need someone to talk to but maybe looking on the advice pages which could be ideal for u.

Maybe ur suffering from anxiety or self esteem issues and hopefully looking at that may make u feel different. I'm not saying u do but to me u maybe cuz this has had a tool on u especially with work and will tell u about copeing strategies. There's websites like The Site, Childline and Samaritans who the sort of place who have years of knowledge of the matter. It's up to u. There's no need to feel like ur on ur own.

    I'm here :)

It won't 'Drive me crazy' it's MY family and I care about them. I always have done and always will do. So what your saying now is that I should allow these people to treat me like this then? Oh.. That's fine. I see how it is. I will be there for as long as it takes, as I've got a family that I have to support. It's not easy to walk out of a job into another, then again I would not expect anyone here to understand that.

Ha friends! Who or what are they? They only come running when they need something. Don't tell me what you think I have because your wrong.

Another thing, don't tell me what you think I'm suffering from, I and only a few others here know what I'm suffering from so don't jump to conclusions that you know nothing about. You don't know me. What gives you the right to sit there and think you know what I'm going though or think you know what I have. Nothing gives you that right.

Hi Star20 - as Suzy says, it's important not to jump to conclusions about someone's situation and simply telling someone 'not to worry' can feel quite unhelpful as this isn't an easy thing to do when someone has a lot going on in their life. We'll be in touch via PM to explain a bit more but for now it's probably best for you to take a step back from this thread. Thanks :)

Just to like update on this from this week,

Countless more meetings with managment still all saying the same thing.

Shit went down yesterday night in work, The Milk Cup is in town at the moment, so we have a shocking amount of tourists. So we where rushed off our feet and understaffed (Big surprise there!) I asked worker C for £3 coin and £2 worth of tokens, she give me £3 worth of tokens by accident, so I sorted it out and reached the extra pounds worth back up to her and said she give me the wrong amount. She turned around and said ' You need to sort your fucking attitude out before I slam a brick in your face. Go cut yourself some more, you fucking freak' The customers where horrified, I just stood there.. What else could I do? Few of the customers that I do get on with really well asked me if I was ok, I said I was grand and that I was used to it. They said that they are gonna say to Paul about what happened to see if them saying anything will make management take any more action on her.

I am looking for another job, I can't just leave this one.

I've jumpped I'm after reading only the first and last post,

If things like this are being said to you why not make an official complaint about abusive language and attitude with threats from other members of staff. If your work ignore said complaints inform them you'll get the police involved for the threats due to their inability to deal with it and also inform them you'll go to the press that your work supports bullying in the workplace
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,328 The Mix Honorary Guru
Official complaint has been made. But it's not being looked on as I've apperently started this full someone's getting fire thing. When it first started, I said to the manager about it, and he told Paul to keep an eye on it, but Worker C is saying that she done nothing..
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,328 The Mix Honorary Guru
then contact management and ask for an update on your complaint and demand that the issue is dealt with or else you'll be taking further legal action.

Also state the company has a responsibility of care to all of it's staff
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,328 The Mix Honorary Guru
My hours from writing this have been cut from 42 a week to 9 a week... Only my hours... No one else in my section have been cut..
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,328 The Mix Honorary Guru
Have you asked for a reason why or followed any of the advice above?
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,328 The Mix Honorary Guru
Well we offer advice and you have not posted that you have taken any of it or what you have done to remedy the issue.

All you do is update with further problems, AS I ASKED BEFORE WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO FIX THE ISSUE. Or is it suppose to magically get better.

You have a family to support apparently yet you come across as a bit of a kid who apparently can't understand the issues of every day life
