Self harming more than usual

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I don't know why, but for the past two weeks i've been self harming more than usual. It's gotten to the point where i don't have to be upset, lonely, depressed, stressed and i just do it because i can. It's scary how accustomed to this i'm getting. I don't do it for fun, but it seems a better pass time than most things.

    Hey charlie_mae

Just wanted to let you know that I edited the title of your thread to make it a bit clearer and I also took out the more graphic mentions of self harm to avoid upsetting others who may be struggling too.

I wonder if anything has changed recently that might be leading you to self harm more often? Has anything been different the last few weeks?

From what you've said it's your attitude to the self-harming that is scaring you - that it seems to be a way to pass the time and you're getting used to it. Have you been able to talk to anyone like your GP about how you're feeling? Or a good friend? Someone that you trust.

We have plenty of info here on TheSite that you might find useful to read in our Self Harm section depending on what kind of support you're looking for: http://www.thesite.org/healthandwellbeing/mentalhealth/selfharm

This page from the TESS website also has some useful ideas about managing your feelings: http://www.selfinjurysupport.org.uk/feelings They also run a self harm email support and text service during the week in the evenings that might be wortha try: http://www.selfinjurysupport.org.uk/tess-text-and-email-support-service

You mentioned other ways of passing the time - do you have any hobbies or distractions that have worked for you before?
