Take the test

I got 14. I feel worthy of my grammar-nerd reputation.

Just out of curiosity did any body else start with not knowing what any of the questions meant? But due to the way the questions were written and the answers given, allowed them to get them right anyway. Obviously some questions such as gerund and polar bears were no brainers, but the rest weren't as easy.

Like question five: "5. Which of the following sentences uses a subordinate clause at the beginning?"
I've heard of a subordinate clause, but no idea what it means. Yet because it said 'beginning', there was only one that had a few words then a comma, to me that had to be the clause.

Or questions eleven: "Which sentence is written in the active voice?"
I didn't know what an active voice meant, but after reading the three answers, two of them spoke about the fires damage, while only one walking talking about the fire directly, which lead to me believe that was the 'voice'.

And question thirteen: "Identify the prepositional phrase in the following sentence:"
I had no idea what prepositional phrase meant, but the 'pre' part of the word clearly means before and we all know what a phrase is. Again using the answers given, the only one that fit's the bill of what you could assume would be prepositional phrase, would be "too the foot of the stairs" as by itself it makes no sense. Unlike the other options, which sort of do.

13, got the prepositional clause wrong. And yes, i know most of this because I study other languages (it's not a command, it's called the imperative!)

 Me too. Although, studied, I don't really any more. English grammar wasn't much taught at my schools.

10, though I feel that was a few lucky guesses! Didn't know what half the things are! My grammar is good, but my knowledge of which part of a sentence is called what is not so strong...

13 but I'm not sure which one I got wrong, because the answers didn't show up. Possibly one of the last two.

I scored 11. Given that I learned English a few decades ago, and that this isn't how I was taught anyway, I'm actually quite pleased with that.

    12. I got 8 and 11 wrong. 8 was technically half-right.
