Seeing a counsellor/therapist privately for depression?

Has anyone got any experience of seeing a therapist privately for depression/anything else etc?

I had depression before 1-2 odd years ago, was seen under the CMHT, it appears to have resurfaced/something similar, so tried to go to my uni for counselling and instead got was given an appt with the mental health adviser which wasn't useful at all, all he did was email me some CBT self help sheets when I felt really really low, plus he said he would contact me on return to uni and he didn't...life eh.

I've only recently realised the impact of having all of this (mental health issues) on my medical records, for one of my recent jobs with my uni I had to fill out a medical questionnaire to have occi health clearance for this job, because I had to declare my previous depression on the questionnaire, I had to have a consultation with some woman over my previous depression and answer a load of questions that were quite in depth.

I'd love to go back to my doctors and say how I feel, but I feel like i'm ruining my chances of being employed in the field that I want to work in,.

So that's where the thought for seeking private counselling/therapy came? Money isn't really the issue I have a few jobs but has anyone done this before? Thankyou

TL;DR: Has anyone got any experience of seeing a therapist privately for depression/anything else etc?

I've had two private therapists (one is current) and I think she is fantastic. I didn't get on very well with my nhs one, plus my stuff is very much long term and I had constraints with nhs.
You can search for registered therapists through bacp.org.uk, and the advantage of going privately is that you can pick what type of therapy you want you can pick someone who specialises in what you need, and also you can check out a few different ones until you find one that is right for you.

Like Girl_gunner said you have to find the one that is right for you and who you can feel confident talking to.
I had a therapist before. I didn't really like her much, she would tell me the same things over and over again. I didn't really find her useful. Now i'm trying to find another one hopefully someone better.
Hope you would find the right one for you. :)
