My physical health - grrr

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Hello,

I haven't posted much in health recently as I didn't know what to say but I'm really strugglinhg with my physical health. Mentally, since coming out of hospital at the end of last year, I'm really good. I'm not psychotic or depressed and I haven't had a drink since October or self harmed since then either.

I am in constant pain though, I've had 5 lots of antibiotics for Urine Tract Infection in the last few weeks, I've been weeing blood, the tests are inconclusive though so I'm going for an ultrasound scan (gynae) on the 28th of January. I also have bad bowels, think it is ibs but it could be something else. I also think I am lactose intolerant. I have diarrhea a lot of the time. Because of all the pain I am in I rarely go out and usually get taxis if I do go out.

I see my GP weekly.

I just felt like having a rant today really.

Great to hear you're doing so well with your mental health. Massive congratulations to you.

UTIs are hell - I'm impressed you're keeping your mental health so good with all that going on.

On the IBS front, have you tried any of the dietary advice for it? Years back when my dad was having problems he went onto a really plain, dull diet, that was pretty much plain rice, fish and green veg for a while. No dairy, pretty plain food. It seemed to help quite a lot.

    Thank you :)

I started a 6th set of Anti-Biotics today for the UTI.

I think I might be intolerant to lactose but the GP said to do an elimination diet but I found this very hard. I love milk and cheese.

I went to the garden centre tonight for a course which was really good and has left me in a happy mood.

Antibiotics play havoc with your guts, so if you have a sensitive belly anyway, they won't be helping!

Someone recommended acidophilus tablets to me to help sort out post-AB belly - they're probiotics along the same line as natural yoghurt, and apparently they can help rebalance everything. Not tried them yet, but probs worth a go!

I feel your pain at the moment, though - my body is falling to pieces and just seems to be one thing after another. Grim.

Try not to let your physical health affect your mental. I know when I've been ill for a long time it gets me down.
Hope you feel better soon. xx *hug*

I've had the gynae scan - some type of cyst but it's harmless and not the cause of the problems. Now I've been refered to a urologist.

And now I seem to have a hand injury from sewing machine usage :(

I was sewing to distract from the pain in my body, now I am in twice as much pain.

I'm really struggling mentally as a result of this. I self harmed on Friday for the first time since I got out of hospital in November. I was in a good mood yesterday, now I feel like shit.

This sounds like the sort of thing that the crisis team might be able to help with? Maybe by sending someone over for you to talk to?

I'm not suicidal (yet) so don't think they would, unless I get worse.

I saw the gp today, more antibiotics (8th course), going for blood tests, another urine test, urology appointment came through today for next month, thrush treatment (cos of all the antibiotics), ibs meds, mental health meds. Seeing her next Tuesday too.

I thought I'd update this thread. The blood tests have shown that my liver is not functioning properly. I have to have more tests. It's either cos I'm fat (as a result of the medication I was on previously) or as a direct result of my medication or maybe the overdoses have something to do with it or the fact I've been taking painkillers several times a day for months due to the UTI pain.

That's rubbish, RG. Hope it turns out to be something benign and/or easily treatable.

    Thanks :)

I have spent today vomiting and shaking. My latest urine test results weren't back when I phoned the drs this afternoon so hopefully they'll be back on Monday. I have a lot of loin pain so I have a feeling I have infected kidneys again as well.

No but thanks for the reminder! They only give results out between 2 and 3pm.

I tested positive for a UTI again, just waiting for a dr to call back. Also really bad stomach today. Pain. When will this ever end?

My memory may be betraying me, but is it possible that your recurrent UTI's and kidney infections are related to your method of self-harm?

I haven't self harmed like that since October.

The therapists and doctors have asked the same thing so don't worry, it would be an explaination if I were doing it. But I've had more surgery in October I think it was and I haven't self harmed since, I also had an internal gynae scan to check everything that was alright so I don't think that's the cause.

Just been back from the drs, saw a different doctor and got more antibiotics. Also they said the vomiting was more likely to be due to the infection rather than the liver thing which is reassuring. I usually see the same dr but as she wasn't in this afternoon (I'm seeing her tomorrow), I saw a different one which was nice to get a second opinion.

    I can't offer much help.

But hugs. Is there anything that helps? A bath or shower, a hot water bottle, knitting as a distraction?

    Thank you.

I find it is worse when I am tired. I just baked (not very well though) and earlier I went to Costa. That helped. I have a hand injury still so not really knitting or sewing although I may try again soon.

I've got to get to therapy tomorrow, really need to get there. I will get a taxi if need be.
