Allergic to nuts?

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Hey!

So since I've been at parents, I seem to have come out in some really itchy rash! It's like an allergic reaction one, but it's only minor.

I used to have nuts before, but since moving away, I don't tend to eat nuts. Is it possible for you to become allergic to nuts even though you've had them before?

(Think I like the word 'nuts'?)

If not, I guess I have to figure out what else it could be an reaction to! Haha!

Yes, you can become sensitised to things at any time. It doesn't happen very often, but usually occurs if you encounter them when your body is ill, or you're already having an allergic reaction to something else.

It's more likely to be a change in laundry products, or different body spray, or an air freshener.

    You could also give NHS Direct a call? 0845 46 47 :)

As Carriage Return says, it may well be a change in washing powder or some other kind of product that you don't usually use.

There's some info on food allergies here: http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/food-allergy/Pages/Intro1.aspx

Hope the rash clears up soon!

    Thanks lovelies!

It seems to get worst at night, maybe I'm now allergic to sleeping ;)
Will get it checked out if it's not gone by Monday, seeing as I'm home then, yay!!

It's possible that you become intolerant to many things, but only a test can give you the answer. Visit your doctor.

If it's worse at night it may well be the washing powder your sheets at parents were washed in.

Yeah, I think I'm allergic to my parents completely!
Travelled back home on Monday, and the rash has vanished! Yay!

I often find that although I dont get ill, when I visit my parents up north for an extended period, it takes me a while to get used to the water. As silly as it sounds. The water isnt anywhere near as hard up north, as it is down south.

 For me, it was getting used to the cat again. I used to be streaming and sneezing as soon as I set foot in the house.

That's pretty much me everytime I go back now.

If I forget to dose up on antihistamines then I spend the first 4 days with my face streaming.

Not if it's rubber skin. He's not allergic to nuts.
