Pregnancy tests- positive after waiting time

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Hi everyone,
My mum asked this morning if I'm pregnant, and although I highly doubt it (since I have the implant) I got some tests anyway to check.
The first test I did came back negative after the 5 minute waiting time, but I looked at it again about 5/10 minutes later and there was a faint positive line... Now I know you aren't supposed to read them after the waiting time, but it wasn't long after so I'm quite confused? The second test I did didn't work at all. Not quite sure what to think, quite worried. :crying:
I don't have enough for another test, and really hate going to the clinic for them because it makes me feel like an utter slag... should I just ignore the result since it was after the 5 minutes?
Thanks

I'd get another one purely for peace of mind. I think the pound shop do pregnancy tests too x

I googled it and it seems like it could just be a faint evaporation line. Would a friend be able to pick you up a test? Saves you worrying until you get the right money.

I had a look online too, but the only respones I could find where from people who looked at it hours later. Hopefully it is just that though, I know tests can change and give a wrong result after the time limit :)
I have a doctors appointment (unrelated) on Friday, I might ask then if I can do a test because she's a nice lady. Thank you x

Sounds like a good idea :) I hope it goes okay!

Edit: the one I googled was after a ten minute wait x

Did you notice if the line had any colour to it, or if it was just a shadowy type line that looked somehow different to the rest?

The evaporation lines that Clementine mentioned are very common, especially with certain type of test (clearblue tests are buggers for it), but they are the grey and shadowy kinds of line, If the line had any colour to it (obv a pink line on a pink dye test or a blue line on a blue dye test), I would read that as a possible positive. The pregnancy hormone in your pee doubles about every 48 hours, so if you do get the chance to repeat the test on Friday, you should get a more reliable result.

That said, I have taken a LOT of pregnancy tests in my time, and I have never had any kind of second line with even the merest hint of colour that didn't end in a baby.

Thanks everyone :) Kaff, it was very faint but the same colour as the "control" line.
However, I've just got quite a heavy period that woke me up. So I'm assuming that, if there was any chance of pregnancy, there's not any more.
Not quite sure how to feel to be honest :(

Thanks for your reply, but I went to see the doctor today and she thinks I've had a miscarriage. She offered me another pregnancy test but I just think it'd be like rubbing salt in the wound so I said no.
Just trying not to think about it really.

as much as I want a baby, I wouldn't want one in my current situation anyway, and truthfully I couldn't have looked after one. It just worries me that maybe when I actually do plan to have one I wont be able to :/

I went through the same situation roughly two years ago - two faint positives, a few days of bricking it and then a period. Mine was a chemical pregnancy, it's really hard to know how to feel about it. Big hugs for you. I dont think you should assume it will affect your fertility, I hope this isn't too morbid but such a high percentage of pregnancies miscarriage, it doesn't mean you can't concieve, it just means that so much can go wrong in those first few weeks that it often does. It's just that most women don't know it's happening.

Thank you Smaug, I really regret doing a pregnancy test because I never would have known and it'd be easier that way. It does bring me some hope on the fertility side of things knowing that it is quite common though, thank you.

I think I'm definitely going to have my implant looked at now though.. I'm sure it's not quite right.

Pregnancy tests are said to be 95% accurate. So if you had five test, that would be beyond 100%.

I'm sure that's just a glitch where it showed positive tho. Quick question. Are you ready to have a baby?rx247 generic viagra

I'm so sorry to hear that. But try not to worry, my best friend wanted a baby with her long term fiance, but when they hadn't started trying she started feeling ill, it turned out she was in the middle of a miscarriage. She said that if she had known about the baby she might have felt sadder.
About 2 years later she was pregnant (on purpose after trying), now she has beautiful little girl. So don't let it worry you too much, I'm sure you'll be a brill mum one day when your ready. xx

I will :) Haven't had the chance to go down to the clinic yet... it's ages away from my house but I think I'll go down this after noon. I'm pretty sure they have drop in until 5pm.

I feel okay I think. Me and the boyfriend are sort of back together, in the stage of working it out I guess, and he's being quite supportive... I've told him but I don't really speak about it, but he know's when I'm upset etc. and gives me hugs which helps.

I just think this on top of everything else that's going on is sort of like the straw that broke the camels back :(

Don't worry about that, very, very early miscarriages (called chemical pregnancies before 6 weeks) are ridiculously common - up to 75% of all pregnancies. I had one before each of my babies were conceived, and immediately went on to conceive healthy babies both times.

I would suggest taking another test to be sure that is what happened, though. I'm surprised your doc didn't recommend that. Heavy bleeding does not necessarily equal miscarriage.

Hope you're feeling better, and definitely get that implant checked! :)

She did offer me a test but I just thought it'd make me feel worse. I'll do one when I go to the clinic, which will probably have to be Friday now!
That 75% statistic is reassuring (even if it is horrible!) thanks Kaff.

    Pregnant test

If you are pregnant, then the blood pregnancy test is usually positive within 3-4 days ... hCG can be detected in the blood about 3 to 4 days after implantation.:chin:
