The Stake

Channel 4 and Barclays are partnering to deliver a competition - The Stake. The competition provides 16-21 year-olds in the UK with the chance to decide how £100k of real money is spent. Individuals can submit their ideas for ways that they would like to spend a share of the money.

There are two ways that you can participate, either by submitting an idea or by being a stakeholder and using their stakes to vote on ideas – or both.

Throughout the competition you will be able to complete a range of Barclays Money Skills activities to improve you financial knowledge and skills. By doing you can earn an additional stake in the competition.

To submit an entry, you need...

An idea! Project ideas should be submitted by individuals, not groups.
An elevator pitch – a catchy description of the great idea, in 118 characters or less.
A budget – a breakdown of how the money will be spent. Each idea can cost up to £20,000.
A short video – this is optional, but will really help to bring the entry to life.

So, what constitutes a good entry? Project ideas can anything from a local community activity, an event, an idea for a small business – and everything in between. Judges will be looking for entries that are creative, demonstrate initiative and will have a positive impact.

You also need to develop a plan for how you can generate online support for your idea, which will include using social and personal networks. The 20 ideas that receive the most support will be judged by a panel, and up to six entrants will have their ideas funded from the £100,000 prize pool.

The winners will receive support from Barclays executive mentors as well as a specialist youth communications agency, Livity, to help deliver your projects or get your businesses started. Their journey will be filmed by Channel 4.

The competition opens on the 11th November, and closes on the 23rd December 2011. Entries can be submitted online at www.thestake.co.uk
