Pensioner

Is pensioner a deragotory term over yonder?

I only ever see it used by British folk and it seems like such a negative and unsavory term. Granted, I always read it in negative and unsavory sentences like "Argh, the fucking pensioners have taken all the seats on the bus again, take your cane and go home and die already" or something like that.

It just seems like such an awful term for an older person!

Bearing in mind many shops and amenities offer "pensioners discounts" and when you hit a certain age, you are drawing an old age pension, I wouldnt say it was that much of a derogatory term.

for me, it's more a generic collective term for over sixties.

Ah good to know. I don't know why it sounds so negative to me, but I often wondered if you all hated older people :p
