So yeah, we have are GCSE exams this week and I am really nervous, I am stressing a lot as well :nervous: I am scared I will end up failing every test we have, I am scared and worried about my French exam results as the test was difficult, I had tried to revise for all my subjects, taking breaks in between and keeping a schdule on when to do homework and what day's to study what. I recently have been lacking a lot of motivation to do my work and haven't really been bothered with as I think "What the point" Then give up on it and surf the internet or call a friends, or just spend all day on MSN and Facebook talking to my friends and family who live away from me. But knowing I am doing this, and loosing more motivation to my work, I am scared it will become a routeen, recently I haven't been motivated to pray either, is their any point? I don't know what to do, I am loosing my religion, my intelligance and I stay in doors, not eating much, I lock myself in my room and literally loose it when somene comes it, I don't know/understand what is happening to me, please help? *hug*'s to you all

DD

I guess a lot comes down to your core happiness, or lack of, and how important the exams seem to you right at this moment. They will be important in the context of your life, of course, but it's hard to worry about a future problem when you have a huge pile of current problems. That's not to say that GCSE results are the be all and end all because they aren't. Mine were adequate, not fabulous. I went on to do A Levels but flunked out due to personal issues. So I ended up with about 5 decent GCSE grades and no A Levels. I went into temporary jobs and did a number of those before I found a settled position. I have now been here 10 years and have developed very marketable skills. So there IS life beyond bad GCSE results if worst comes to worst.

That being said, there is nothing to say that you will do badly. The pressure of having to face the exams is no small thing, because every pressure is magnified when you are feeling low or depressed. You can still pick up quite a lot of information in revision even in a small space of time. Don't give up just yet, and don't think that failure is inevitable. Also, give yourself a break. You clearly are not free from problems in your life and therefore you have an obstacle to overcome that perhaps others don't. You're trying your best, given the energy and motivation that you are able to summon.

Being intrinsically unhappy affects all things, and there is a very strong compulsion to do the things that pick you up NOW. It's natural that you would seek refuge in activities that provide comfort and distraction from all the stresses. I've lost myself in some amazingly stupid activities in the past in order to avoid the pain or the constant blackness of feeling.

Don't try to rebuild Rome in a day. Small steps are the way forward. Even an hour or revision is better than none at all, and you'll be proud that you did it. Your brain won't regress, it won't lose intelligence. It needs exercising in order to stay sharp, sure, but you don't lose your abilities just like that. Bear in mind that if you are under stress then it's completely normal for your mind to wander and for you to be unable to focus.

Just some thoughts. I'm tired so I may have rambled :s lol

I don't think you need to panic that sounds like a really normal reaction to intense stress.

Do you have anyone to pray with? I find that can help. Also, I've always tended to exercise more and play more music (I play the flute) during exams. And I knit like a demon. Anything in down time to take your mind off the worry.

So got some exam's over, yet things are becoming more intense in Year 11, we have out first mock on Wednesday! This is becoming very stressful, but have my friend's who are being very supportive of me...I look in to finding myself distraction's like thing's I enjoy doing and all...I enjoy expressing myself thorugh writing and poetry, but recently I have been really reluctant to do that and I seem to just give up easily, I've tried deactivating my Facebook, but when ever I give up, I just log back in instantly, I don't quiet to be fairly honest see the point! This seem's be causing me a lot of distress, and I get really worried before exams come up, I had a recent two science re-sit's so, that was also awfully difficult. But now what, the most intense of times and I'm panicking...Thank You for your help Piccolo and Stu *hug*

    For the facebook thing....

    1) Find a friend.
    2) Go to the password screen, and get your friend to add a letter / word to the end of your password.
    3) You can't log onto your facebook anymore without going through your friend.
    4) They can't log on to your account as they don't know your password.

    Sorted.
