Knee pain

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I've had pain in one of my knees that sort of radiates up my thigh a little. More recently the knee cap sorta pops every time I straighten my knee. Wondering if its worth waiting a little longer and seeing my gp or going to the minor inuries unit tomorrow

    Hi there

Have you been running or doing anything stressful on it?
Perhaps you could call NHS direct and get some advice about where to go next. Sounds like it needs attention whatever is wrong.

Hope you get it sorted

Nope no injury, been playing up for like maybe a month on and off. Been consistently sore since it started popping (it sometimes feels almost crunching) though, maybe a week or two ago. No swelling really but well painful, in a really achey kinda stretched way.

I suggest a trip to the doctors :)

I have "dodgy" knees and they were really helpful with options for me. If it's painful and possibly to do with the bone I'd get it checked out for sure.

Well it sounds like seeing an expert as you suggested is the next step - popping joints can be rectified with specific exercises to strengthen muscles so a doctor or walk-in sounds good.

Hope it gets sorted soon, hearing things like that can be disconcerting but I'm sure a medical prof can reassure you :thumb:

I get this. It actually caused me to dislocate my knee (not meaning to worry you lol, it was years ago now). But it turns out my kneecaps naturally want to bend outwards because I'm naturally flexible. I have to do exercises to strengthen muscles on the other side of my knees so it overpowers them in a sense. Still go see your doctor, you'll probably be referred to a specialist/physiotherapist (like I was and got a final diagnosis since dislocation)

im the opposite. My knees want to turn inwards which has given me a slight problem with my hip and ive got exercises to do for that,. Worth going to your doctor or a physio because you dont want it to get worse

id also maybe consider a cod liver oil supplement and glucosamine/chondroitin for your joints. You may also need orthotics in your shoes if you have an imbalance

wouldnt the runkeeper thing just measure how many times you put your feet down? Would it be accurate for distance, does it measure your stride?

Im just wondering because ive been looking at getting a sports watch that tracks distance, speed and pace by GPS because i think it would be really good for my training, and plotting my route into runkeeper type places is a bit of a PITA everytime i just want to change up my route a little

If you can hold out for a doctors appointment and they are relatively easy to get I'd go for that over the minor injuries unit.

I would definitely recommend an appointment soon. My left knee is gone beyond belief and it can be agonising at times (this is because I left it to long)

However I did find my doctor couldn't help to much (except with painkillers) and just told me to self refer to the local Physio Dept, I would definitely recommend it if your physio department offers this as they are the ones who will help with the excersies

Either see the doctor or the Physio department, better sooner than later
