I need a dress. My big sister is getting married in May and I need a dress to wear to her wedding. I am an usher so I have to look fairly respectable, and it has to go with a nice pair of flats because I am assuming I am banned from heels (both my twin and my older sister are 5'8"/5'9" and twinnie is the other usher).
So far, the only dress that I've liked is this one, and it has been vetoed by my mother.
A few things to bear in mind:
1. I am 6'0". That means dresses that are normal length on your average girl will be several inches shorter on me.
2. I am a 34E and I don't really fancy dealing with a strapless bra. That means no backless/strapless/oneshoulder dresses, please.
3. I am also blessed with hips. So anything which puffs out in that area will make me look even bigger. No tulip dresses, please.
4. I have to coordinate with my twin. I think she's going black/cream, though, so this leaves you with lots of options.
5. Red washes me out.
6. My sister appears to be going for the 'hippie tea party' theme. God knows why, since her fiance is the most middle-class stereotypical person you could ever meet (tennis, brown loafers with no socks, white chinos, that kind of thing - he's lovely, though). So it kind of has to fit in with that.
Aside from that, do your worst .

Not sure how well this one would go with someone else in black and cream

ETA: I think she's also vetoed Monsoon on the basis that everyone will know it's from Monsoon :yeees:.
whats wrong with monsoon?
cant you tell her to concentrate opn her own dress, and youll choose your own?
*shrug*
just thinking, you are tall and if you have the same problem i do, dresses will look shorter on you because you'll have super long legs. when i went to a family wedding last year, i wore a dress below my knee.
i think a longer dress would be much more appropriate for your sister's wedding  i don't know, i might be a bit odd for not wanting to flash alot of flesh at a family wedding, lol!
coast have some lovely dresses that come to the knee and aren't strapless, etc. thats where i got mine from last year i'd look on the website for you but for some reason, my internet browser crashes everytime i open it :grump:
Have looked at Coast and haven't like any of their stuff .
This one from Bravissimo is lovely, and I usually find Bravissimo a good fit (look at the size guide on their website).
This one is really nicely shaped, but I don't know how you feel about all-black.
I found a lovely one in Monsoon that I wanted my sister to give me as a bridesmaid dress (she's getting married in August) but I can't find it on their website.
I find outlet shops quite good for this sort of thing (I live near enough to Bicester Village) and being out-of-season means you probably won't match anyone else's new dress.
Wish I could be more help, but I'm only any good at this when I'm in the shop...
This is a specific look but I quite like it (and, I think it's quite mother-friendly).
Likewise, this.
This one is also Phase Eight.
And these shoes are very pretty.

This might be a bit better, the model is 5'10" and it's just above her knee

Having a dress made might actually be a cheaper option and less of a ball ache on terms of finding something perfect.
If you don't know any dressmakers, I can recommend ... ebay... find a dressmaker close to you with high rating and reviews, email them your specifications, and see what they say. I did this, with a local ebayer dressmaker, and had a lovely dress made for me, exactly how I wanted for a very fair price.
If I wasn't a sodding usher it wouldn't be such a problem.
Fireworks dress gets my vote, who give a fuck if its from Monsoon or not.
frankipanda,
ask yo momma if she wants to wipe your bum for you as well if she won't let you wear whatever you choose, the absurdly comical impression of her doing so will force her to realise you are no longer a child.
If not, the option always remains to scream hysterically and start wrecking shit.

http://www.boohoo.com/evening-dresses/arla-pleated-chiffon-34-sleeve-dress/invt/azz75605?_lm_esp=14-89-641 might be a bit short though
Unfortuantly doesn't have a back, but it's lush so I thought I'd show you it http://www.boohoo.com/evening-dresses/helena-georgette-dress/invt/azz85955?_lm_esp=14-89-641
How about Vivien of Holloway? I this one, although it probably wouldn't suit me.
I think your mum was right to veto the dress, but probably not for the same reason. I think it would be way too short on you for a wedding.
Yeah, Big Sister vetoed it for that reason, too.
I know. I didn't really realise how short it would be, but yeah, I know.
Booo
However I am biased because that is exactly how GWST dresses, so obviously I already think it is phwoar.

However, I need to find a nice pair of red kitten heels/flats and a red headband of some description (nothing too flashy, obv).
So far I have found these: http://www.office.co.uk/womens/blowfish/secluded_knot_peeptoe/30/8161/21738/1/ but they don't exist in my size sigh
